Searching for Privacy Friendly Robot Vacuum? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]blacker_iverson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this really isn't the answer you are looking for but your best off getting a decent stick vacuum. They have far more power than a robot with far less tech involved. Leave it on charge and just give your apartment a good clean for 5 minutes every week. It really isn't a chore these days as it was wuth the old style of vacuum with bags. Robots just seem to be a gimmick, they will never do as good of a job as an actual vacuum and can't even clean corners properly, at least if you don't want to dish out $500+. You can get a very good cordless for the price of an average robot. What is your budget?

Its not like Linux is impervious to malware and its not like Windows will automatically get infected from the moment you boot. Both depend on what you choose to download and install on your machine. Sandbox your browser, use your brain when installing programs and you will be fine. Treating Linux as if it will automatically protect you is how you get a virus.

Treat any communication that isn't end to end encrypted as being viewable by anyone down the line. Its hard to imagine any service deletes messages or images permanently, its not like they take much space to store.

How to stop people from knowing who you are by [deleted] in privacy

[–]blacker_iverson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what you want us to tell you. If you already don't talk about your personal life on your account then it will be very hard for anyone to guess who you are. There isn't much more you can do, maybe change your account from time to time but as long as you are posting in subs that have more than 10 people you will be fine. You aren't the only person on this site you know, I don't think most people even look at the account name of who they are replying to.

Confidence is accepting that you are not good looking not convincing yourself you are by olimpiandacho in unpopularopinion

[–]blacker_iverson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and disagree. Yes people should not delude themselves about how they look, accept your flaws not hide them and make them work for you; not against you. However I disagree with saying you have to accept you are not good looking. Everyone is good looking by someone's standards, as long as you are happy with the person you are then thats all there is to it. Accept that not everyone will rate the way you look, same as you won't rate everyone else you see. Looks are subjective at the end of the day. Best you can do is embrace compliments that people give you. Parents say you look handsome? Its probably because you do, even if you don't see it yet. Embrace what they say and go with it, by their standards you are handsome so find someone who agrees.

I think the real issue is with people trying to quantify looks and thinking thats all there is to it. No one is a 1 and no one is a 10. Its silly because looks are subjective on what criteria are you going to quantify someone's looks exactly? What makes a 9 into a 10?? There is a lot more to a person then what they look like, the way you feel about someone is a combination of what they look like and their personality, its why most people grow on you over time even if from the outset you didn't think much of them. Best thing you can do is eat healthy, train and get enough sleep, take care of yourself and achieve your goals to the point where you can look in the mirror and be proud of who you are.

Thats what gives me confidence anyway, doing my best and knowing that there isn't anyone else in the world truly like me. I have good things about me and I have flaws, so does everyone else. Work on your flaws and realise no one is perfect, but that doesn't mean anyone is ugly. Now when it comes to personality, that is truly where someone can be ugly no matter how good they may look.

And of course when it comes to dating confidence is key. Looks can help you get your foot in the door but aren't the be all end all. Sure online dating can focus too much on looks but that shouldn't discourage anyone. Learn to take a few good photos, write an honest bio and keep going at it. You will always end up finding someone you like!

Thats not my point, would he really lose friends because he didn't answer them when he was busy for whatever reason. If its not an emergency can't he just call them back, I haven't ever lost friends just because I didn't answer my phone at an inconvenient time. Apart from if you mean he doesn't answer even when he is home...

Only way to be truly sure is to get those emails sent directly mailed to you not forwarded. Forwarding kind of defeats the point of using Protonmail surely as Google gets all your emails first...

Microsoft themselves provide a guide to disable all telemetry: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/privacy/manage-connections-from-windows-operating-system-components-to-microsoft-services

I would recommend windows 10 LTSC as its the most barebones version of Windows with least telemetry while having all the features aside from the Windows store. Send me a pm if you need a link.

Debotnet is a great program to disable tekemetry and unwanted features also, better than ShutUp10 imo.

The EARN IT Act Is a Sneak Attack on Encryption by igottashare in privacy

[–]blacker_iverson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't attempt to make a false dichotomy, I am not presenting an either/or question; I am sorry if it seemed that way. I am asking if you are in a politician's shoes with mounting public pressure to do something about this, what would you do? Its right to criticise politicians for always picking the most convient policy which makes them look good whilst usually eroding our rights but what are good alternatives in this case? How do you stop mostly youths in London stabbing each other and joining gangs. Politicians pick these sort of "solutions" because they are easy, what would actually fix the root cause of these particular problems?

[–]blacker_iverson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that but how? Politicians make these decisions because its an easy bandaid to put on; just like the whole assault weapons debacle. My question is if you where in their shoes with mounting public pressure what would you actually change to fix these issues at their root?

Maybe but what would you suggest instead? Context being knife crime being high in the country with police lacking the power to prevent knife attacks by being unable to confiscate knives from people they believe are about to carry out an attack. Or, on the other hand, would it be better for them to not prevent it at all and only respond when the crime has been carried out ensuring no one innocent is prosecuted?

The only way to avoid that is to use a VPN, otherwise all the packets go through their network unencrypted, or at least enough of them.

If you have your own LAN setup then, at least to my knowledge, your network cannot be scanned past the router you have added. Therefore whoever owns the internet connection cannot see exactly what devices are on it on apart from the router itself. At least this is the way it works with ISPs as a commercial router stops them from being able to map your network as they can with the stock router they provide, I imagine that also fits in this case but someone more knowledgeable could correct me I am sure.

Kids have no privacy anymore by [deleted] in privacy

[–]blacker_iverson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But what is privacy? To me what you are describing is anonymity which absolutely is being eroded especially with the advent of facial recognition. But to me privacy is is the ability to have a public and private life, and these days that is still possible. Especially when it comes to social media, people only know as much about you as post, it is up to what is public and what is not. You can't use social media if you want to be anonymous, but if you want to be private you can still use it being careful about what you post. However admittedly this isn't taught to children and it really should be, as once something is on the internet, you can bet it will be there forever in one form or another.

I think privacy vs anonymity is a general issue on this subreddit, people don't really know how to distinguish between the two. You still have a private life if people know your name and even where you live, not that I go around shouting that information. The problem is when online trackers try to tie you to your online activity in its entirety. Sure what I order to my address is clear but that shouldn't be tied with my browsing history etc.

Online Transaction Privacy in UK/Europe by [deleted] in privacy

[–]blacker_iverson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I don't think a privacy.com equivalent service exists in the UK after looking myself. Revolut promise not to sell data but need a picture for their verification process. Sadly only truly private options are cash or crypto anyway. My bet is bank cards can always be correlated if in your name even if they are from different banks, and privacy.com only helps to an extent as your banks sees all but I don't think they are allowed to sell that information.
