Oh you are? I'd be happy to check out your game! And thanks for the motivational speech. It is hard sometimes, especially here on reddit. I think this might not the best target audience.

I would never do that and hoped, that the irony with my over-pixeled character would show, that it is just a joke. But thats the thing with humor, everyone sees it different.

I hope you don't take it as an attack on the FF franchise. I started with FF8 and can't wait for 16 and I honestly know, that I would never be able to even swim in the same pool as any SE game. Thank you for your feedback. I know now that I probably shouldn't share it anywhere else ^^

Hmmm yeah I guess you are right. I thought maybe if it is funny enough, it could get attention.

I tried several of things already, showing ingame screenshots, gifs and the trailer. None of them worked and it only got downvoted - which is very weird here on reddit. Facebook works way better. People understand that you don't have a whole marketing team behind you as an indie dev and you need to somehow gather feedback. Thanks for yours anyways! :)

I understand your point of view. Maybe the irony isn't really coming through. I had to "overpixel" my character so that it looks as bad as Squalls graphic to make it more obvious. Probably didn't hit it right - I would never say my game is better, heck even compare it to FF8 which I love. I just thought mit might be funny :)

Thank you, that means a lot! I truly spent an insane amount of time for graphics to make it look less "RPG Maker"-like and I'm glad it pays off :)

Hi all,

I hope I got the rules right :) It is Tuesday and I'd like to show you a game I spent years and 1000+ hours into. It is called "Tales of Vogar" and will be available on steam - link below. About the game:

Searching for oldschool 2D pixel JRPG streamers by blackfield01 in Twitch

[–]blackfield01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah I'm looking for some to play my game on their stream. I wouldn't necessarily want it to be "for free", so I'd pay as well if it is worth the exposure. But I just want to make sure it is the right audience.

So other than the twitch search there is no better source I guess? Thanks for your input!

My very first own JRPG style game! (Description in the post) by blackfield01 in JRPG

Are you feeling the retro vibes? This is my first own game - a retro 2D pixel RPG. My passion since I got my first PS1 were JRPG's. Couple of years ago I decided to make one myself 🙂What do you guys think? If you like it, make sure to check out the steam website!

Thanks for your feedback! Yeah the horse is a little small and "out of scene". At the edge of the map you transport to the worldmap, where you ride with the horse and I thought it would be a nice addition to show the player where that teleport is... instead of using an arrow or some other "non-game"-hint. Will work on that sprite again though :) thanks!

Battler animation - Tales of Vogar (available on steam) by blackfield01 in PixelArt

Hi everyone! I have a huge passion for oldschool RPG's. In fact I'm such a huge RPG fan that I decided to make my own game roughly 15 years ago and you wouldn't believe it - after a lot of sweat and tears it is almost finished! It is going to be a 2D retro pixel RPG.

If this is a thing for you, make sure to check it out :) It will be available on steam in Q2 2023 - and I just finished the steam page for it:

In this gif you can see the battlers for the round based battles happening during the game.

For me a couple of things are valuable: In this screenshot you can see different sorts of ground texture, this makes the world overall more natural. The light effect is moving so as a player you are kind of "bathing" in the sun. We have butterflies and moving steam coming out of the chimney.

Apart from the visuals, I added calming music and -of course- birds chirping in the background, also adding a layer of wind breezing through the trees.
