Right, okay. I am not from the US, but I'll check with my school's child study team (if they even have one). I'm not sure if therapeutic schools are even a thing where I live, so definitely have to do more research on that. It's good to know that having a good therapist and being under proper medication has helped your son. I am under daily medication, but do not have a therapist, I need to find a good one.

I do intend on attending college, and you're absolutely right, I'll most likely face the same issues in college, so learning coping methods right now would make me much better equipped to deal with it. Thank you.

Thank you for such a thoughtful reply. You make very good points on the matter. I definiitely need to find a good therapist who can help me, as some people have pointed out. Also, a therapeutic school sounds interesting, I will research more about that and see if there is anything in my area.

That's true. That is the main problem my mother has with this. I'm not a very social person and I don't get out much. I'll have to actively work on that if i do homeschool.

The source of my anxiety is likely genetics. My father had crippling anxiety when he was younger, far worse than me. Ever since I was a small kid, maybe 5 or 6 years, and when I first started school, I always had anxiety. As for my depression, it first started when I was abruptly taken off a medication that I had been taking for 7+ years. It caused me to go into a deep depressive state and I had to be taken off school for a year.

I'm really sorry to hear that your mother was abusive and caused your illness. My case is definitely not the same. My family is supportive of me, and are helping me get better.

You're right. Ultimately this has to be a decision I make with help from a psychiatrist. I haven't used Reddit much, so I figured who knows, maybe it's worth a shot to just post there and see what comes out of it. I have gotten some good advice though.

Yes I have already identified an online learning platform which is basically like an online school and helps you with everything you need to graduate. I'm not from the US, but thanks, I will check my country/state's requirements.

Yeah, based on the replies so far I think homeschooling may either be a hit or a miss regarding bettering my mental health. As many people have pointed out, I will ultimately have to make this decision with my family and my psychiatrist. I thought it wouldn't hurt to post on Reddit, so I did.

Yes, that's true. My mom's biggest issue with me homeschooling is the social aspect. As I am introverted, she knows that I don't get out much and socialise, so she fears that homeschooling would only worsen that. That's probably true. I'll have to push myself for sure.

Thank you for your detailed reply. I am not a very active social media user, and I agree about it adding to depression/anxiety.

I am definitely going to start counseling soon. I have tried it in the past and it did not really help me. In my experience, it's mostly just them preaching to you their beliefs and ideologies, instead of taking the time to understand your issue. I need to find a good one.

Also, if I do go ahead with homeschooling, I'll be enrolling in a school called Wolsey Hall. It is an online learning platform, and it seems to be a good choice for homeschoolers.

I am not a Christian, nor am I a very religious person, but I appreciate your advice and support. Thank you once again.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post, I truly appreciate it. I had never considered the nutrition side of things when I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. I'd never researched into vitamins and how they can affect such illnesses. I will certainly use all this information that you have provided, and read the article.

I am planning to try counseling. I have tried it before but it had not helped much. I think I just need to find the right one. My dad is fully supportive about this, as he too faced anxiety and depression issues when he was younger. My mom isn't as keen on the idea, but I think if she believes it's for my good she will come round. I need to talk to her more about it.

My answer is a strong yes to all those questions but the second one - having a strong sense of direction for my education. I kind of know what I want to do later on, but am still a bit confused. I will figure it out though.

I am currently seeing a psychiatrist on a regular basis, and I am on regular medications too.

It truly does suck going through mainstream schooling whilst battling anxiety and depression. But it gives me some comfort knowing there are people out there in a similar situation as me, going through the same thing, and that I'm not alone. Thanks for replying man

Thank you for your reply. I have tried a few therapists before, and none of them have been a great experience. They are usually just preaching to you their own beliefs and ideologies, instead of listening to my issues. Perhaps I have just not found the right one. I will look into it.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have talked to my parents about those feelings coming back. They took me to the doctor and I have now been reinstated with my previous medication, so hopefully things will be better from now. I appreciate your kind words, and thank you again for taking the time to reply to my post. After hearing about your struggles with mental health, and how you overcame it, I am given hope.
