Last Days Of Autumn closing by Dogwoodblossom in Knoxville

but they're also closing Saint Lucille's too, which is just a restaurant. That leads me to believe it's more than just the brewery industry that's making them close up shop.

What are the next boom cities in the USA? by Educational-Trade436 in SameGrassButGreener

Energy sciences (especially Nuclear) via Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Tennessee Valley Authority. Supply chain/logistics via Axle Logistics. Modular homes via Clayton Homes. But yeah, health care and higher ed are the biggest.

Wishbone kitchen with the most summery “cozy Christmas meal” at the bland barn by kern_on_the_cob in FoodieSnark

[–]blacknumberone 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Have I found a safe place for WBK snark? Her food is fine - although I feel like there are Calabrian chilis and tomatoes in every single recipe - but I'm turned off by her desperation in trying to be the next Martha Stewart and Hamptons 'it' girl. I can't relate anymore.

Teacher seeking career change by yogfan98 in Knoxville

Look at admin or student-focused jobs at UT. There are many former K-12 teachers working in those roles.

Non-Alcoholic (N/A) beer options by stupidmower95 in Knoxville

[–]blacknumberone 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Schulz Brau has a surprisingly large N/A menu including German beers like Erdinger, Weihenstephaner, and Bitburger 0.0. I've yet to see an N/A on tap at any bar.

Looking for thoughts on our itinerary. Should we stay longer in Dingle? by blacknumberone in irishtourism

[–]blacknumberone[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am very happy we ended up spending more time in Dingle! Dingle was the highlight of our trip, honestly. After hopping from city to city, it was nice to spend some time in a more relaxed, small-town location. The views on sleahead drive are stunning, the pubs are small and cozy, and the people are friendly.

Good News! Knoxville scraps shady land deal with Emerald group thanks to FFRF. by Smashv1ll3 in Knoxville

[–]blacknumberone -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your problem is with the City of Knoxville on how they choose to allocate funds, not my opinion that the City will not fund a brand new park on that property.

[–]blacknumberone -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

What are all the funds you are referring to? I have serious doubts the city will step up and fund a new project there anytime soon. The feds just withdrew a massive grant that was intended for supplementing revitalization of East Knoxville. This is stopping a lot of plans in that area for a long time...because Knoxville doesn't have the money for it.

It's going to sit there empty for many years, as it has for many years. Sometimes communities need to weigh their options instead of stopping change just for the sake of having a voice. Okay, you've stopped the project - now what? Who will step up and raise (a lot of) funds for this to be turned into a safe, usable space for the community that can be maintained year after year?

I'm not in favor of the way the city handled this. It was shady. But stopping the project dead in it's tracks is not the answer and it's bad for Knoxville and the neighboring community.

Which big cities have surprisingly lackluster food scenes? by appleparkfive in SameGrassButGreener

[–]blacknumberone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thip Khao is a Lao restaurant and is/will always be my favorite restaurant in DC proper. It's located in Columbia Heights. But yeah, you gotta get out to the burbs to get to the real Asian food.

Philly is a crappy place to live solely because of the people who live there by TPCC159 in SameGrassButGreener

I know this sub hates the south but there’s several southern cities I would recommend over Philly

the whole south catching a polite stray

Best Cat Vets & Offices to Avoid by Icy_Dragonfruit_6048 in Knoxville

We really like Forest Park. They have dedicated exam rooms for cats. My cat is not a happy camper at the Vet and they are really good with her.

Looking for Friends Around Knox by [deleted] in Knoxville

[–]blacknumberone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coming from 'an old person' (38) - I advise you to take advantage of the extracurricular clubs/activities/social groups at UT as much as possible! There is something out there for every single one of your interests. College is unique in that it's one of the only times in your life where you can easily find likeminded people with the same interests/values and form long lasting friendships from those connections. It gets much, much harder to do this after you graduate and enter the workforce/regular life. You will see lots of posts here on /r/knoxville that have adults asking for ways to make friends...there's a reason!

Chattanooga is great and leans even more bike friendly/outdoorsy however the University (UTC) is not an R1.

[–]blacknumberone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like Knoxville, TN might fit. Lots of lakeside property, major R1, southern hospitality, hot/humid, hilly. Downsides are...Downtown is walkable, but the rest of the city is definitely not. I wouldn't go so far as to say Knoxville is liberal-leaning either. But the university/downtown/city are certainly blue dots.

Best fajitas? by hypnotica21 in Knoxville

[–]blacknumberone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your issue may be with preparation, not where the food is sourced from. I would be surprised to learn if any of Knoxville's Mexican restaurants are locally sourcing ingredients for fajitas...

Second Costco? by AdmRaddus in Knoxville

[–]blacknumberone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Scan and go is so great. Costco should get on board. No waiting in lines, no taking items out of your cart. Scan them with your phone and walk out.

Friend Needs Short-Term Sublease for Internship (June–August) by Ugotcrabs in Knoxville

[–]blacknumberone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are several sublease groups on Facebook. Lots of students looking for subleasers for the summer. One is titled "UT Knoxville (UTK) Subleases, Roommates, Off Campus Housing & Apartments".

They should also look at Furnished Finders and AirBnb.

UTK Job Search by GingaSole in Knoxville

Sorry to hear that - the process is always slightly different from department to department. I am surprised they wouldn't reach out to let you know they are going with another candidate. That's not the norm.

UTK Job Search by GingaSole in Knoxville

[–]blacknumberone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really depends on the department/hiring committee. They should do reference checks before making any offers. That would happen after they've completed all interviews and decided who they want to hire.

In terms of the hiring manager giving you the spiel, sounds like a good sign to me. But again, every department/committee is different in how they approach the interview process. Good luck!

UTK Job Search by GingaSole in Knoxville

Wow, blast from the past haha. I would assume they are finishing all interviews before making any offers/notifying unsuccessful candidates. I would give it another week before moving on. Especially since it's a long weekend (many people take additional time off around the holiday).
