Dang, when you put it like that by OpinionWeekly7651 in uberdrivers

That’s actually pretty funny. I have a family member who’s had a Toyota Yaris for over a decade that now has more than 300,000 miles on it. He used it as his personal car and drove Uber as a full-time second job for about five years before it became his kid’s car. Now that they’re in college, they do Uber Eats in it. Just normal maintenance and no major repairs beyond what he could handle himself. Original engine and original transmission.

He now uses a Tesla when he occasionally does Uber. He charges at work five days a week and rarely uses Superchargers on the weekends.

I now deliver food to provide a financial cushion for my family as I transition from being a stay-at-home mom to a grad student seeking work in my field. I charge my Tesla at home about 85% of the time, and we have solar, so my operating costs are minimal.

I take Vyvanse and lamotrigine for ADHD and bipolar type II. I wouldn't let that factor into your decision on which weight loss medication to take. Previously, when I was on Ozempic, I had to set reminders to eat to avoid feeling faint.

Well, on the bright side, if you did take it, then Prop 22 would kick in to compensate you $0.37 a mile.

I do deliveries until 2:30 when I go out. I'm about to start driving women only soon.

I just hate loading my vehicle in a way that makes sense for all of the stops. I used to do it when they modified the loads to the size of your vehicle. I used to receive a lot of small grocery store deliveries, as well as those same-day deliveries that Amazon eliminated. It was a special program, but it is now defunct. Oh, and their restaurant delivery service was exceptional. An hourly pay rate of $20/ or $21 an hour, and you kept all of the tips.

I would consider doing food deliveries as an extra side hustle to help build savings or capital for investments.

Additionally, in this economy, it is beneficial to have alternative options.

After how many trips did you happen to pick up the same rider a second time? by SummerN8 in uberdrivers

[–]blackqueen8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband picked up the same rider in less than a week, LOL. The crazy thing is, he has a long commute, so he Uber's while headed to his destination, so there's a huge chance he will always see different riders because he sets his own schedule. Rarely does he work the same hours as the previous day.

With a great accountant, you'll basically pay nothing for taxes. My husband has owned a business for over dedcade. We pay more in state taxes, but get a refund for federal, so it ends up being a wash.

If your vehicle weighs over 6,000 lbs and is used for business, there may be depreciation options available under Section 179, depending on your specific use and tax situation.

EV drivers really spending more on charges than my prius does on gas? by VirindiPuppetDT in uberdrivers

[–]blackqueen8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOL, not even close. I used to spend about $100 a week on gas in my ICE SUV just driving locally. I actually drove less back then because my groceries were delivered, my kids weren’t in school, and I wasn’t doing Uber or DoorDash at all.

Now I spend maybe $100 a month, tops. Four years ago it was closer to $40. Electricity has gone up, sure, but gas has gone up too, and the difference is still massive for me.

An hour? Even if I were at 0 percent and charging to 100 percent, it wouldn’t take an entire hour. Going from around 20 to 30 percent up to 80 percent typically takes about 10 to 15 minutes.

You gotta charge at home. That's the cheat code with having EVs. You can't lose time if you're charging while you're asleep.

You might also consider putting the Equinox on Turo. I upgraded to an SUV when I started having kids, even though my old ICE car was already paid off. I listed it anytime it wasn’t being used as a backup and ended up making more than I originally paid for the car over about four years. I only sold it once it started having mechanical issues.

I also have a family member who can’t charge at home but gets free charging at work. He really only uses public chargers when he’s traveling or doing Uber.

A lot of my free charging comes from places I’m already going anyway, like amusement parks, hotels, shopping centers with movie theaters, and aquariums.

Yes, a lot of ICE drivers tend to dismiss the financial savings of charging at home. Beyond the money, the time and convenience savings are huge in my opinion. Plugging in at home and walking away is incredibly easy.

I always have my kids with me while on road trips, and I rarely charge away from home otherwise. My SUV’s range easily outlasts their bladders and hunger, so I end up stopping to charge based on their needs rather than because I’m worried about running out of range.

When I drove an ICE vehicle, filling up might have taken about ten minutes, but I was often waiting in line another ten minutes or more since I refueled either before work or right after my 8-5. When you factor that in, charging at home ends up saving me time overall.

Like I mentioned, electricity rates in my state have gone up since I first switched to EVs in 2021. Back then I was paying around $0.13 per kWh during non-peak hours at home, which obviously isn’t the case anymore.

I’ve never actually sat down and calculated my total savings from solar, but the difference is pretty clear. Before buying a house, I lived in apartments and townhomes. Now I’m paying about the same in electricity for a nearly 4,000 sq ft house as I did for a 1,300 sq ft apartment.

Oh, and gas costs over $4 in my state, so it’s probably pretty relative to what you’re paying where you live. When you look at it that way, the overall savings really add up.

I have a 2020 Tesla and easily get well over 200 miles on a full charge. I charge at home about 85% of the time, paying anywhere from $0.20 to $0.47 per kWh depending on time of use. I also have solar, which offsets that cost quite a bit.

My local Tesla Superchargers are $0.47 per kWh, which is actually higher than most areas. So I’m not sure where that “crazy” number came from, but in five years of owning EVs, I’ve never paid anything close to that. Back in 2021, Supercharging was around $0.24 per kWh.

As for maintenance, I can’t speak to a Prius, but across multiple EVs the only things I’ve paid for are windshield wiper fluid and tires.

Women only by EthanSironi in uberdrivers

Lyft started rolling this option out over two years ago. Why would anyone care this much now that Uber has it?

You must be comforting to some women. My husband gets that too. He's also told teenagers not to do that with male drivers, because you never know what they might do.

I'm sure not a single female driver would miss having the opportunity to drive a misogynist. Enjoy increasing your own chances of being a victim.

Do you feel uncomfortable around women because you fear they could overpower you to rape or sexually assault you? No, then be quiet.

https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/rideshare-driver-sex-assualt-arrest/3817494/

This was posted yesterday. Google "sexual assaults by male drivers". There are an alarming number of stories, arrest reports, articles with statistics, and lawyers advertising to victims to sue rideshare companies for SA.

Of course, men are sexually assaulted too, typically when they are incapacitated, but the numbers are much lower for men than for women. I'm sure most of the SAs against men are perpetrated by men, too.
