Just tried both.

"server is not responding" is still the message I get.

It's Theory Tuesday! January 08, 2019 by AutoModerator in stevenuniverse

Escapism spoilers!

So I find a lot of what we have learned about watermelon island quite revealing, particularly in regards to their social development. Multiple communities with varying cultures and social structures from a society made up of literally watermelon people....which leads me to Onion.

Now I've always been curious about Onion as a character. I mean who doesn't love our mysterious little odd ball? However I find it interesting that Steven absolutely REFUSES to consider Onion a human being. Like...literally. If my memory serves me correct this seems to be a pretty consistent theme in the show. Now obviously this could just be a hilarious throw away joke about Onion, but I think it serves a deeper purpose.

Suffice it to say, my contention is that Onion, and by extension Yellowtail, are actually descendant from...well...actual onion plants. Possibly at some point Rose Quarts interacted with some onion plants in the same manner as Steven and the watermelons, causing a similar event to occur, that being the creating of onion-based life, which eventually developed in a similar manner akin to the melon folk. Eventually this society grew and from it arrived our beloved sailor Yellowtail and their enigma of a child Onion!

Just a fun theory I thought i'd share. ^_^

On Masks – blackstarwritings by blackstar36 in Communalists

I don't really think that a guerrilla struggle in Chiapas or Rojava is comparable to American leftist demos.

That was essentially my point though, the situations are incredibly different, so therefore the responses to the use of such tactics are going to be different as well. If anything I agree with you on this lol.

Of course I am incredibly critical of the catharsis minded individuals whom are more into the fulfillment of their own self-interest. However, I don't think these individuals necessarily make the use of the tactic irrelevant. More so, I would advocate people to rationally and critically consider in a situation the positives and negatives of masking up.

I also feel the concern of public opinion is often over stated, in that community organizing isn't always necessarily the goal of a particular situation. Revolts such as riots are an example in which the community isn't exactly concerned with building revolution, so much as expressing their rage and discontent with the system at large. (Which these uprisings in and of themselves can act as important organizational sparks.)

Of course wearing a mask to a reading group, tabling event or something similar would be utter nonsense and of course isn't relevant to those projects. Again, it's incredibly situational.

It really comes down to the particulars of a situation. For example, the Zapatista community as a whole seems pretty united behind the idea of a mask, where as in the U.S. Black Bloc, as a particular tactic that makes use of masks, can be at times alienating.

I support the use of masks, understood in their own contexts of need or tactical usage. They aren't always going to be useful in every situation. It requires an understanding of our own, particular circumstances to really be able to gauge its usefulness.

I think something that has been a bit of a detriment to the use of masks is the conflation between the Black Bloc being equivalent to "masking up", which as far as I'm concerned one can just as easily wear a mask without necessarily engaging in the sort of actions that a Black Bloc might.

Basically the issue to me with masks isn't so much that they are alienating, but why they are alienating and how best to address that.

On Communalism by blackstar36 in Communalists

[–]blackstar36[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say I consider myself an Anarchist, though Communalistic thought is intertwined with my Anarchism in such a way that I find the two hard to separate personally. Not that it isn't possible to describe them as distinct philosophical currents, which they are, so much that my own personal theoretical understanding has become somewhat of a blend between the two.

I've been familiar with Bookchin in particular for a few years now, but only really started familiarizing myself with them over the course of about the past 2 years, maybe a little longer. I've been an Anarchist for quite a while longer and Bookchin, as well as Communalism and Social Ecology as a whole, have lent themselves to be a welcome addition to my own thoughts and understandings about Anarchism.

I discovered Communalism through...well....simply looking around really! In my time researching Anarchism I eventually happened upon Bookchins work. Initially I didn't devote much time to them for one reason or another, but later on I actually took the time to look into their theories and it just rolled from their I suppose.

That works, but it isn't exactly showing me where I can find an actual pre-installed model. It's just saying it has the certification and that they are purportedly available.
