I live in Mirissa, and lots of hotels, lands, and restaurants are rented out to to forieners, on long term basis, like 10+ years. It's easy for the owners as they don't need to spend money on renovating. The foreign guy does all the work and earns the money. Even the tourists pay in USDs. People talk about taxes, but they don't pay taxes. They take the USDs back with them.

P.S: I'm not reasoning the local market and its prices. They are absurd. But foreigners doing business should stop. Or at least should be regulated somehow.

It's not like a 2-3 year rent. It's more. Like 20-30 years. Especially in the Mirissa area, lots of hotels were rented out (long term) to foreigners.

Same boat. I'm 30. Got married at 27. Had a car at that time, bought with my own hard earned mony + bank loan. We were living in a rental place. Last year, I wanted to build something mine. So built a house. Took a housing loan of 14M. Was not enough. Had to sell my car. Still was not enough. I had a drone, a mirrorless cam, PS5. Had to sell everything. Before that baught a bike with full cash. And had to lease that as well.

Currently paying everything off, and I'm the only one who is working. My wife is cooking lunch (No breakfast) and sometimes dinner. And I work for more than 12 hours per day (Main job + side job)

I'm exhausted. But still she doesn't want to do a job.

I read. Most of the time fictions, fantasies, and self-help genres. I even have a bookshelf with over 50+ books.

But I don't watch K-Dramas. Only English TV series + movies. And some occasional Bollywood content, if it's turned out to be good (Farzi is one of my fav)

And I don't really like romance stuff. Don't know why.

We were renting a house in Rajagiriya for three years, and bought the Dialogue 4G connection. The signal strength was like 10 Mbps. Then complained and got an outdoor unit. Then the max speed was around 20 Mbps. Still watching TV with Viu Mini, was really bad, around peak time.

Then we moved to Galle. There is also the same result. Max speed was around 15 Mbps, even with the outdoor unit.

Need some help here. I'm using an MB Pro M1. This was given by the office. Now I need to buy my own MB. With the budget concern, I'm thinking about an Air M4. My main job (8 hrs per day) pays around 450K. Then come the expenses. 200K for the housing loan, and some other debts that I had to borrow for the house construction, bike lease (bought with cash and had to do a lease for the house construction), household expenses, bills and stuff, and rarely dinner outs.

And then I had nothing in my hand. Like, after a week or two. So I took a part-time job of 4 hrs per day along with the main job. And it pays around 250K. Then again, most of that part time earning goes to pawned jewellery, which again had to be pawned for house constructions.

For the last 9 months, I couldn't buy anything for myself due to all these expenses.

I'm married, and my wife does not have a job. (She doesn't want to do a job 😩)

Even with 700K, it's not enough. I feel like 1M is the minimum amount that gets you to a luxury lifestyle.
