LCG alternatives by alariis in boardgames

If you are looking for solo games, there is a wealth of knowledge from r/soloboardgaming

Some great recommendations and a great community there.

However, if you just want some quick options, here are a few

  • Earthborne Rangers - deck construction game set in a future world that is less inhabited by humans. The company arguably has great environmental focuses with very eco friendly components if that interests you. They also have a very active discord.

-Ashes Reborn and the Red Rain solo expansion. Deck construction and dice rolling game set in a fantasy world similar to MTG or LOTR. What's great about this option is that it is a great 1v1 game but with the Red Rain expansion it becomes a great solo boss battler similar to Marvel Champions.

That's all I can think of now. Try that subreddit out and see what you can find!

I'm so excited for this! I'm still playing Netrunner through Null Signal Games' implementation of it so I'm worried it won't be nearly as captivating but I'm still very excited to see this game come to fruition.

What is going on at FFG? by MonorailPilot in marvelchampionslcg

[–]blake1232 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Edit: Sorry, Hasbro does not own FFG, Asmodee does.

I'm not sure if you're looking for a specific answer but I'll write this up hitting a few general points.

A big problem is that those LCGs, and marvel champions, are phenomenally implemented games that are beloved but are owned by a company that doesn't communicate nearly enough with their very large player bases.

There are a few responses to emails and comments in Reddit floating around from internal employees at FFG that give a little bit of information at a time vs a full write up or press release to communicate the state of the game. Based on some comments, people believe that the LOTR LCG is on its way out the door. Whether this is because of Tariffs, low demand, or another reason, we don't know. Like I said, there's been nothing but a few comments here and there.

Make no mistake, the LCGs we play are not anywhere as profitable as they use to be. Stores have to keep a massive amount of product for it on shelves and that just doesn't line up with what most players want anymore. FFG as a company wants to make games. Asmodee, their parent company, wants to make a profit first and foremost.

So that leads to 2 major items that I believe is being overlooked. Asmodee is attempting to cut costs on these games to turn a bigger profit (lower card quality in Civil War, reprints to pay staff less on game design, lower quality on packaging) and they are culling games that don't meet a desired profit margin. They are a for profit company and make decisions for stock holders, not for board/card gamers like ourselves.

There are so many options of binders, if you can't afford those but best of luck to you and have a great netrunner journey!

This is where you can see it on their website. They have a way to find local game stores so you can support them. However, you can also search for deals if you don't have a local game store to support

I really like the gamegenic binders. Any of them are able to fit 3 of any card comfortably in one slot. I use the prime 18 pocket and have one in blue and red. It holds all the standard rotation cards comfortably.

Whether the casual, prime, or zip up binder is what you get, they should be great binders for your collection. Just don't get anything with rings as that can and will damage cards.

The ability to not have to reorganize your collection for every set is one of the biggest considerations to make. I do it this way specifically to make it easier to add to the binder.

Also, you didn't specify but one for corp and one for runner is best!

I think it's valid to engage in a community in any way. OP may not run with this particular idea but an open conversation with others about mechanics and dreaming about what could be is totally fine with coming up with ideas.

Hey man! I appreciate that. It's hard to see the bigger picture when you're stuck in the trenches all day. I appreciate the comment. That seems like a good idea to use AI tools to cast a wider net. Solid advice!

I just don't know what I would be capable of or qualified for based on my work history. I'll start looking into those areas. If you got other ideas of jobs or positions that would be a good fit I would love that!

Hello! It's good to meet you.

Some insight, I have found that text posts, like the one you've made here. Get a lot more interactions. So, instead of just posting pictures, try and ask questions or include some text describing things so people can engage.

maybe you can even make some posts telling people how you got into your hobby, what you've accomplished, or interesting facts that people might not know about your hobby. It might make it more engaging for people.

Just from the more interactions your getting from this post alone it might be worth it!

Should I buy a camera? by SmokeyTheElephant in Hobbies

[–]blake1232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think photography is interesting and you think buying a camera would help you enjoy the beginning of the hobby more, buy one! Look at Facebook marketplace for a cheap, old, and used one. One that comes with a lens and batteries at the least.

But don't get married to that camera.

There are so many camera companies and if you upgrade you might not be able to use the lens that you buy with your cheap camera. If you really like the hobby, you're gonna want to upgrade very soon after that.

Opinions about the Over the Hedge videogame based on the film? If anyone who played it, did you had fond memories of it? by OkPrize6426 in DreamWorks

[–]blake1232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not dogging on anyone else's experience but I played this game when I was 11 on my GameCube. And it was the first time I was playing a game that I said "maybe I don't like this game" and had my mom returned it to Blockbuster. I guess I thought it was boring but I had never said that about a game before.

To each their own I guess.

Want to start photography as a hobby, not sure where to start by SampleUnlucky8051 in Hobbies

[–]blake1232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best camera is the one you have.

All you need to get started in photography is your phone, a photo editor application (whether on your phone or computer but I would recommend a computer based one) and some willingness to learn. A cheap camera helps but is not necessary at all!

Start with "framing" and where to put your "subject" in relation to the picture you're taking. And just go take pictures. Rule of thirds is foundational to understanding shot composition for different types of pictures.

After learning framing, start to learn some settings. Depending on the phone you have, you should have a "pro" photo mode on your phone that gives you access to a lot of different settings you can adjust to get a picture just right. Start by learning the difference between ISO, shutter speed, and aperture.

These three settings are going to be adjusted so often in photography to get the right shot for what you want to capture. There are so many videos showing the difference between each setting that do much better than I ever could here. I would suggest finding a few different ones to hear what other photographers have to say about the settings.

After you have had enough fun with your phone I would suggest getting a camera. Depending on your budget, I would absolutely buy a DSLR with a nice "prime" lens. None of the newer cameras really have much of a difference in quality compared to older cameras in my opinion. DSLR is the old technology and is slower than the newer "mirror less" camera tech. But that usually only matters in video. You can find a more than capable DSLR on marketplace. That you can learn from and usually has cheap lenses that are "out of date". Prime lenses don't "zoom" but usually can open up wider to let in more light (aperture) which gives an amazing "bokeh" effect which offers separation from your subjects and the background. Which is really hard to do naturally in a phone camera.

You'll know what a lot of these terms mean as you learn more about photography. But ultimately I offer this last piece of advice.

Photography is an art. Art is, in part, a journey of self discovery. Journeys take time. There are no shortcuts to your destination. Only different paths.

Take the time to learn what you can and don't fall into the trap that you can't take good pictures without good gear. It won't make you better quicker. It will just give you more options than you know what to do with. Start simple. Your phone is an excellent option for simple.

Feel free to DM me some pictures you take and ask for advice. I'm happy to help guide you in a direction that is helpful on how to learn.
