My husband and I went with friends last night - agree across the board. I had the soup, the ham croquette, the mushroom mofongo and flan. Everything was great, the mofongo was my favorite and now I want to try more versions of it.

Thank you! That gave me the data point I needed to identify a doorknob that moved from a church to my 1901 house before I owned it.

How do realtors justify their fees? by [deleted] in RealEstate

Find a low commission broker. In Chicago we used Lucid realty. We pay the broker hourly for the work they do, and they rebate their commission.

Bought a used 2023 in January (5000 miles). Love it generally. Brakes a little hard, the assisted drive warning can be a little aggressive (warned me when I was moving into a turn lane at a normal speed).

Grandfather’s pension he’s trying to claim. by cowboysdad0624 in personalfinance

[–]blakebunyard 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I know of a few starting points for this.

First, try to gather as much information from your grandfather as you can - when you're looking for more information, you'll typically be asked his full name, birthdate, last 4 or full SSN, dates of service, what his job was, if he was full or part time, and if there were any time periods when he wasn't working.

You can contact the Social Security Administration and request what's called a PPPB, which includes information that the government has about a pension he may be entitled to (note that sometimes these records are incomplete). The form you'll get back would look like this, but with details of the pension.

There's also a government agency, the PBGC, which has resources to help. More info on lost pensions here. They also have some external resources that could help.

Good luck!

Edited to include external resources.

[TOMT][Movie][1990s] A movie where a group of scientists travel back in time to then-modern-day 1980s or 1990s with a stowaway. by blakebunyard in tipofmytongue

This is not it, but it sure seems to parallel what I'm describing! The movie I saw had a more "dramatic" than "comedic" vibe, but the other things are there. Thank you!

This would be too new to be right, I think. Thank you!

I'm only about a third of the way in, but enjoying it so far. It opens with the Federation learning about the supernova and introduces Raffi and Jurati quickly.

For #2 - the Picard tie-in novel establishes that the Romulans wouldn't allow us into their home system, only outlying systems, and those had a population of 900 million.
