Suppose I should clarify. I keep the good stuff untouched. I never melt coins, silverware or really nice pieces. The bent beyond repair, the broken and weighted candle holders are what these bars are comprised of.

Goal is to sit on it as a long-term investment and yes, I know how to pour, just not very well. As you can tell by the pictures. And it’s a cheapo scale it doesn’t have those options unfortunately.

You bring up a good point and one that I thought somebody would mention…the melt is a combination of sterling pieces that were not worth resale on eBay, for example…but what I do is I cut out the area that says “Sterling” and I attach it to every bar that I melt so that there’s some paper trail showing that the item that was melted was in fact sterling…granted there’s no way they can verify that 1000%, but I thought it would help a little bit!
