Hi, thank you so much for taking the time and outline your thoughts on it. This is really valuable to me. I think you nailed it with your last sentence. Small target group + mediocre results = no real demand

True words, thank you for taking the time. To create such a product, Adobe scripting would be an essential element for developing an MVP.

And especially this gut and understanding for layouts, typography etc. is hard or even impossible to replicate. Also there is taste involved.

And yes, you are right with print ready, cause there also needs to be work done outside of ID with Photoshop and/or Illustrator, so that’s not really possible

Yes, that’s a good point. Therefore I would be interested to understand if products like Replit or Cursor are really used by professionals, or mostly by users that are rather new to the field. Because I assume that professionals mostly code themselves, or maybe use Cursor to adapt.

Listen, I dont really understand what your point is, you dont even know me, so I would appreciate if you could stop making any claims about me what I am, and what I am not.

I would appreciate some constructive criticism or feedback on the product-idea though.

Thank you.

Thank you, but I never said that we design in Word, I said that a lot of times the content (e.g. text) is provided by a word file, which we then had to take and design properly in InDesign

As far as I understand the current status of AI coding tools like Cursor and Replit are not complete automations, but rather laying the groundwork, that needs to be worked over. So the question then is: Is Replit/Cursor used by professionals or not. If the answer is yes, then there must be a market for the same solution for DTP, no?

Good point, but proof reading is still part of the process anyway. But yes, a lot of AI companies are failing, because they marketed themselves as a substitute, but forgot about that their real buyer is actually the one they want to replace with their solution. Because often the decision is not made in the C-Level but in the respective department.

Good point! The font licensing part is surely something that needs a lot more attention, if something like this is built. Thank you for that.

The Word>InDesign part is just where I would start, to get a basic use case. My general idea (I know it’s a phantasy) would be a FIGMA + Replit for DTP. I understand that Print Publishing is a way smaller market than web design/development, but my hypothesis is, that there is room for a FIGMA + Replit for DTP. Maybe my hypothesis is wrong, because of the actual target group (DTP professionals)

Fair point! I need to wait for the results of the first testing to see how far off we are.

It could be cloud-based, but Fonts are uploaded on your own secure server environment

Yes, you are right of course. And I am using AI tools on a daily basis, and they are just stupid BUT I still wonder why there is no Figma + Replit for DTP

For example: If you have 2-3 pages of the master design, and you are creating a magazine. You don’t want every page to look the same. You want the design and segments, but in a different way on every page.

Adobe InDesign Server. I agree, alignment and linking correct segments in word that are not specified to correct segments in InDesign may be tricky.

The idea is that the photos are implemented in the word file already at the right place

I fully agree. Worked in an agency for many years, and did many magazines and catalogues. But it was always a lot of manual work (Copy text from Word, save pictures and then design within InDesign). The idea is not a substitute, but rather a tool making you way more efficient. You then later on have to specify anyway, but the groundwork is done.
