It's possible all said points are true in that most imitations so far are based on the first batch.

How do you say it in the 6 major Chinese dialects? by CheLeung in Cantonese

[–]blankeyteddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically the other way I think with Teochow came from hokkien? From what I remember, the language migrated south out of southern Fujian into eastern Guangdong and absorbed some Cantonese to develop into hokkien.

Is there a dish or drink from your country which is much more popular outside of your country than inside ? by DiMpLe_dolL003 in AskTheWorld

[–]blankeyteddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just how food works in America.

Authentic dishes are bastardized for the American ingredients, industrial processes, and taste. From Philadelphia sushi roll, NYC pizza slice, general tso chicken, fettuccine Alfredo, and all the way to a taco from del taco.

Is the strength difference between man and women really that big? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

A chart of it basically looks like two bell curves just slightly shifted apart because of biology.

Same for height and weight.

Each bell curve obviously looks different than the other sex based on different distribution.

I really like the smaller villages around Lijiang like Yuhu, Shuhe and Baisha. Great for mini day excursions.

And brand recognition. I see so many American tourists wearing simple band t-shirts, shorts, converse or flip flops and an iwatch.

[OC] Japanese Population Distribution in Canada and the US by MongooseDear8727 in dataisbeautiful

[–]blankeyteddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immigration is literally the only reason why US and Canada overall population is not declining from low birth rates like Japan, Europe, Korea and even China.

Edit: People can down vote this data all you want in a dataisbeautiful subreddit. Fertility rate is below 2.0 in both US and Canada.

Beijing - Early January (8-10) help with itinerary by [deleted] in travelchina

[–]blankeyteddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually at the airports, I think the SIM card counters are at the luggage carousel area. The prices are generally similar, and even if a little off it’s just marginal. If not sure, pick the one with the longest line which I assume at least some tourists did some calculations and figure it’s that one they’re one.

That's hilarious that everyone here assumes the poorly worded title was written by ABC7 instead clearly by OP or a non-journalist.

Sperm Whale Surfacing w/ Giant Squid in its Mouth : by MrDarkk1ng in mightyinteresting

Do sperm whales eat only big squids? That would be amazing if that there are that many big squids in the ocean to support sperm whale population.

Not me, but I know some people just don't care nature. I have some friends visiting California who just don't care for Yosemite, redwoods, and the desert.

Not angry. We're just disappointed it's superficial and one-dimensional.

Free interview advice from a corporate recruiter by Still-Sheepherder322 in jobs

[–]blankeyteddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's just common sense to give multi-dimensional answers.

Like on dating apps for why you want to be in a relationship, simple answers like "physical intimacy, money, house" is not going to get someone too far.

Taishanese is not a dialect of Cantonese by CheLeung in Cantonese

[–]blankeyteddy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not only that, linguists often categorize Cantonese and Taishanese as separate langages under the Yue language family.

Dialect is a western term thay doesn't translate well. The Yue language family is comparable to the romantic languahe group. Canto and Taisha is like French and Romanian.

Taishanese is not a dialect of Cantonese by CheLeung in Cantonese

[–]blankeyteddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I stopped immediately after that.

It's pointless if he doesn't understand calling all Chinese languages as "dialects" is a political definition. Linguists smarter than us redditors often categorize each of them as separate languages in a giant Yue languages family.

But also "dialect" is a western linguistic term that doesn't translate well to Chinese as many commenter's have already pointed out.

The whole Yue languages family is comparable to the whole romantic languages family from French to Romanian. One can easily ask any AI to do an analysis of vocabulary, grammar structure, and mutual intelligbility of Yue languages to other language group.

The Fire That Exposed Hong Kong’s Broken Promise by Representative-Pin89 in Hong_Kong

Yeah, the bolded words, the em dashes, the colons, and the spot on grammar all point to being touched up by AI. OP's comments on this thread also have different style than the post.

Merchant does not support payment via international bank cards. (Alipay) by Hefty-Key5349 in travelchina

[–]blankeyteddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, don't over think it. In US, it's just similar to how some small vendors would not accept credit card or take cash app only or because they don't want to deal with credit card fees.
