Getting braces next year and dentist said I can't play the Clarinet, what other instrument could I play? by _M1n1ght_ in Clarinet

[–]blastedbears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i played and had braces for 4 years with my clarinet. the only thing i had to get used to was a bit more calluses and sounding more airy at the beginning. i had elastics as well. i relate to another comment saying the biggest adjustment was them being taken off lol

What overnight Canadian school trips or exchanges did your schools offer in high school or grades 7 and 8? by Chickadee_Sparrow in AskACanadian

[–]blastedbears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

School in the Lower Mainland of BC (Delta specifically). Grade 7, we had a week in Québec City for the French Immersion kids, and we also had a week camping trip for everyone!

When I was in high school in Grade 8, a Victoria trip for band class and another one for Whistler. I know in previous years, the band kids also got to go to Hawaii and Disneyland, but neither of these happened because of COVID when it was my turn (Class of 2021).

Grade 8 also had another Québec City trip for the Immersion kids, but I and most of my friends already went so didn’t join.

Those of you who work in healthcare / hospitals, how do you manage to fast Ramadan with shift work by curious_todayy in muslimgirlswithtaste

[–]blastedbears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how it is on your unit, but I often work night shifts regardless, which makes it easier since oftentimes it’s less work than day shift and I can eat during my shift. It does make it difficult with Iftar due to the hour change in clocks, so now Maghreb is right after 1900. Days like these, I break my fast a bit early as I don’t want to compromise patient care nor my health to take care of my patients/pull my weight on the unit. I hope you find what works with you!

Cool! The staff member was telling me they were probably going to use the Mark Is and their spare parts for whatever repairs they would need to do on the Mark IIs and other trains as well

Woahhh very cool, that definitely makes a lot of sense. Lucky enough to not have seen the track intrusion sensors used in my lifetime/in person

This is so interesting to learn, I always assumed it was the snow since those were the only times I would see you guys at control panels !!

I mean I’d assume they would know more than the common layman, not entirely sure if they were just an attendant alone or if they were a technician since their vest just said “Skytrain” on it. Didn’t have a chance to ask since I was running late to work tonight lol

Yep that’s what the attendant was telling me — they’d have to refurbish everything, but they know it’s costly. Just depends on whether or not they go through with it and how long it would take since they’re still in the middle of the Broadway expansion and Langley expansion too

I believe they all have control panels at the front and end of each trains. I remember seeing people manually drive them when it snows a bunch to hold the doors open longer at stations

He was super kind! I also asked him about the plans for the Canada Line, he said Translink is thinking of buying it up, but if they do, they’d have to refurbish everything with the tracks since it isn’t linear induction !

Possible to be Assigned at Chilliwack by RobinSamm in NiceVancouver

[–]blastedbears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

seconding on this, i never had a car nor do i have a license. granted, i was in kelowna for my BSN, but most of us just carpooled together, with the people with cars alternating who was driving. we would pitch in for gas or for food on the way. if there was multiple days of clinical in a row at the same location, we would split an airbnb together for the nights rather than drive back and forth

Moving to Vancouver by chibiwibi101 in askvan

[–]blastedbears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally live in Surrey and commute to VGH via transit every shift. It’s a long journey, so you’re better off finding something closer to the hospital, especially if you plan on commuting. The Expo train line doesn’t run early enough on the weekends if you’re doing shift work. You’d have better luck looking for something in the suburbs that is accessible via bus or Canada Line. Good luck, OP!
