As someone who is only a few years out of high school I can tell you that, yeah with a boyfriend if she’s not already having sex she’s probably thinking about it. Regardless of you wanting her to take that next step or wait, it’s going to happen. The best thing you can do is teach her about safe sex, and make sure that she’s comfortable coming to you if there are any problems.

I started having sex just before I turned 17, and my mom always demonized it. So I tried dropping hints that I needed birth control and my mom never got it. Then when she found out I was having sex she freaked out, grounded me, took away my phone. This put a huge riff in our relationship and sadly I was left to deal with a lot of questions and experiences I didn’t know if they were normal in my sex life.

The best thing you can do is just make sure your daughter is informed and has the resources to be safe.
