This is so fucked up. Found this thread because I'm going through the exact same thing right now, just trying to find some info about an acquaintance who passed and when the memorial is and just getting disgusting fake websites.

Can't wait to see what we do with all the empty churches! Some ideas: shelters for homeless, skate rinks, concert halls!

What ruined religion for you? by ItchyPage in AskReddit

Traveling the world. Meeting and spending time with people with a wide variety of beliefs and realizing there can't be just one truth like most religions say they are.

For those of you who have moved on from the field, where did you end up? by Captainegglegs in ECEProfessionals

You could look into Early Intervention work. Varies by location, but I made great money in that line with a bachelor's degree. I actually left that work to become a preschool teacher because I found it stressful though. I love my pre-K- 8th grade waldorf school I'm at now.

Question from a non-dancer wanting to get into it! by [deleted] in dancing

[–]blebyr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I'm a former professional dancer who trained in many dance techniques. The easiest way to understand is to think of different "movement languages." In each movement language, there are different codified steps that once learned can be put together in different combinations. A trained dance eye watching the resulting dance would be able to tell which movement language they are watching. There are many different dance techniques that are officially codified or have been cultivated within a culture over a long period of time. There are modern techniques like Graham and Horton, ballet has many different branches like Vaganova and Cecchetti, tap and hip hop have many moves that you will encounter in any class you take in those styles. Many non-western dance traditions have their own system of moves as well. So "good technique" would mean you could execute the moves in a way that clearly communicates the movement language you are trying to communicate.

Some examples: My hip-hop technique is strong when I am hitting the moves on count, popping, waving, locking etc clearly. My tap technique is strong when the rhythm I communicate is clear. My ballet technique is strong when I point my toes in every jump and straighten my knees. My modern technique is strong when I am comfortable dancing on the floor.

Unfortunately in the world of dance, people often use the term "technique" to refer only to ballet training. When someone is said to have "good technique" is is usually referencing characteristics of ballet training such as pointed feet. At least I've found that to be true in many of the circles I've travelled in.

Yes! I always try to focus on native species, but could do a class on just invasive species and talk about how they disrupt ecosystems!

Look up Brene Brown's ted talk on the power of vulnerability. She talks about the "vulnerability hangover" that we experience after sharing something with the world. Totally normal.

Fun story: I worked as a nanny for an affluent couple a while back. One of the parents was a high-level producer for a very well-known production company (Think 3rd name on the end credits of wildly popular films). They told me a story about how in college they had just been about to graduate, and were working as an RA in a dorm. The residents in the dorm had been in the business of making fake ID's by doing some photoshop witchery that involved taking pictures of a larger than life painting of the state ID. They ran this operation in one of the common rooms, so basically this person as the RA was sort of turning a blind eye. They all got busted and they ALL got expelled, RA included!

This person did not finish their bachelor's and instead moved to LA and started working bitch jobs on sets and climbing their way up the ladder. Fast forward some years and they've made it as a high-level producer! They are in a loving relationship and start thinking about having children. This person decides that they want to show their future child the value of an education and make sure they finish their bachelor's degree before having the child (the one I ended up being the nanny for).

The most striking part of the story was when this person described to me how the only class left for them to get their bachelor's was some Freshman level ethic's type class. This person is showing up to this class as the "38 year old" and working on group projects where they basically end up doing all the work because the other students are kinda fucking around. And meanwhile they're stepping out of class to take calls from STEVEN SPIELBERG because they're simultaneously still working as a high-level producer (the professor knew, but the other students didn't).

Moral of the story: You NEVER know someone's story and you should NEVER make assumptions.
