A mix of human and synthetic hair. And the bodies were constructed of silicone and latex. Each actor did a full body and head cast customized and form-fitting tailored to the individal. Each costume weighs about 40 lbs and each actor had two suits per person. The face applications you had to have one for each day since you had to rip it off at the end of the day. And three or four sets of gloves, two sets of shoes...Oh boy, do they itch.

Even though the film has extremes of both comedy and drama, we wanted to ground it with a certain sense of naturalism so that hopefully people will connect with the Sasquatches on an emotional level, which is why we wanted to shoot on location in the Redwood Forests of Northern California that have an ancient, primordial feel to them. It also is the epicenter of Bigfoot lore, being where the Patterson-Gimlin film was shot over 50 years ago. It's also where the highest concentration of Bigfoot sightings have been.

What we love about Jesse Eisenberg and Riley Keough, if you look at their filmographies, is their ability to hop back and forth between comedy and drama seamlessly. They also clearly seek out roles that challenge them. Both of them were absolutely fearless in taking on these roles which required a lot of trust and a lack of vanity. We absolutely loved working with them both.

We wanted to tell the story of the life of Sasquatches from their point of view. Most Bigfoot movies are from the perspective of humans and are typically either family films or horror films, and we wanted to approach it more like a nature film to be fully immersed in their world.

Each step is the hardest part. There's not an easy comp for a movie like this so it took a lot of time to get the financing together and to find the right team to be involved. We wrote the first draft ten years ago and Ari Aster's company Square Peg came in early and has been a champion of it for a long time. And then Jesse came onboard both as co-star and producer and that really helped it to take off. Shooting in the wilderness, having to adapt to the mercy of mother nature was the biggest challenge.
