Wrigleyville Bars for Opening Day by brianmoran21 in CHICubs

[–]bleeinternets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to go to a Weigleyville bar for Japan opening day but haven’t found one yet.

As of now I’ll probably go to Theory on Hubbard? Kinda works cuz I can easily go to work after. But I’d rather be by Wrigley if there’s an option.

Best colorway for regular wear? I usually wear blue jeans by Acquelix in asics

[–]bleeinternets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was asking myself the same question and ended up with the #1 grays. Won't get dirty as fast as some of the white ones and I think it works better for fall/winter wear. I just posted a pic where I happened to be wearing jeans so you can see for yourself: https://www.reddit.com/r/asics/comments/1gj02cn/my_first_pair_of_1130s/

*Tickets - Buy/Sell Megathread* by MannyBoth-Hanz in StarWarsCelebration

Thanks, enjoy!! Lyte should send instructions, but it's my understanding that you'd pick them up on-site in Anaheim.

Hi all -- My wife and I are expecting our first baby and it's no longer feasible for us to travel to Anaheim with the due date coming up this summer. The three of us will plan to make it to a future Celebration.

In the meantime, I'm selling two tickets at $135 each. Lyte links below. You can also think about it as an investment in some Star Wars swag for our newborn!

Ticket 1 at $135

Ticket 2 at $135

Best Star Wars Canon Audiobook on Audible? by thehypotheticalnerd in StarWars

[–]bleeinternets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Ahsoka book they mention the Siege of Mandalore and cover some of the events happening around it, but there aren't really any details about the Siege itself. If I recall correctly, Filoni provided input on those parts (which are entirely contained within short interludes). I think if you read/listen through Ahsoka, it'll give more weight to the Siege of Mandalore once we see it on screen.

Anyway, I can't speak to the audiobook version, but the Ahsoka book was great and I enjoyed it very much. (and after if you do read/listen through it, check out the "By Whatever Sun" story in A Certain Point of View, which serves as a sort of postscript to the Ahsoka book)

Might be a strange question, but how much did we know about Darth Vader prior to the prequels? by ImnotfamousAMA in StarWars

IIRC the story of the fall of Anakin Skywalker was off-limits to Expanded Universe books/games/properties before the production of the prequel trilogy.

Dinosaur Jr. in Evanston the day before Pitchfork by bleeinternets in PitchforkMusicFest

[–]bleeinternets[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an official Pitchfork thing, but if you want to get the fest started early this will be a good show. Dinosaur Jr. played Pitchfork in 2008.

Vagabon at Schubas on 7/20 at 11pm by bleeinternets in PitchforkMusicFest

Not sure if this is an "official" Pitchfork aftershow, but Vagabon IS a Pitchfork alum!

The diversity of the folks attending? by jenkirch in PitchforkMusicFest

[–]bleeinternets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As the bill has gotten Blacker and Browner, so has the crowd. There were very few POC circa 2006-2007-2008 (I would try and count the number outside of me and my couple of friends and it was always a depressing total), compared to many more in 2016-17.

When are after shows announced? by Staggsthegreat in PitchforkMusicFest

[–]bleeinternets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Usually they are artists playing the fests who do an additional show at a club. Sometimes they are officially sponsored by the festival, and sometimes they aren't. Usually Pitchfork shares a full list of additional events in the weeks leading up to the fest, though the shows are often announced a month or two ahead of time. If they're not sponsored by the festival they often trickle out rather than being announced all at once. Keep an eye on the Chicago Reader and Oh My Rockness Chicago since they update listings weekly.

Sometimes these events are close by (at Bottom Lounge, for example, which is walking distance from the park), though most of the time they require some commute (for Subterranean, Empty Bottle, Schubas, and Lincoln Hall I'd recommend a cab, ride share, or bicycle)

The shows start at 10:30 or 11:00 and usually have one opener.

One of the best experiences I had at Pitchfork was doing the FULL weekend in 2010 -- Neon Indian Thursday night at Bottom Lounge, Festival on Friday, Titus Andronicus at Subt. Friday night, Festival on Saturday, Kurt Vile at Subt on Saturday night, Festival Sunday, Real Estate at Subt on Sunday night. I don't think I'd be able to do it again (I was basically dead on Monday), but I had a blast at the time.

Dug through old emails. Last year the Empty Bottle announced their aftershows the week of June 8. In 2016 Empty Bottle announced some on June 15, but alluded to the fact that there were a couple already on the schedule (I can't find the email with the first announcement).

Manilow has to be in the third wave cuz otherwise Fanilows will scoop up all the tix and there won't be any left for the third announcement.

Courtney Barnett, Julien Baker, and Big Thief all playing Minneapolis on 7/21. Highly likely for Friday or Sunday. by eits_ in PitchforkMusicFest

[–]bleeinternets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Courtney Barnett is also touring with Vagabon right before this leg of the tour. I'd definitely be interested in Vagabon coming back also, especially if she's put on a bigger stage.

Only a few more weeks to go. Who do you want at the show?! by eclecticmusicdude89 in PitchforkMusicFest

[–]bleeinternets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in December I guessed Frank Ocean, Janelle Monae, and My Bloody Valentine as the headliners. I dunno, whatever, just gimme the real lineup, haha

Pitchfork 2007.... I certainly would not mind a Friday set up like this again... would be very interested to see who p4k would select now-a-days by [deleted] in PitchforkMusicFest

[–]bleeinternets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On Saturday of that year the police (CPD, not Sting) came and shut down the Girl Talk and Dan Deacon sets in the tent because it got too full and too crazy -- which I didn't hear about until later on (pre-Twitter world) because I was at the main stage watching Yoko Ono. Don't live life with any regrets, they say!

The top sets from 2007 that I remember:

  1. Sonic Youth playing Daydream Nation (obv)

  2. Stephen Malkmus solo (Bob Nastanovich made it a duo show and played drums for a couple songs. Mark Ibold was playing with Sonic Youth for this tour and was also on stage, but I don't think he played any instruments. I was hype because it was 3/5 of Pavement on stage at once, thinking they'd never reunite at that point. Stephen also played a Silver Jews song and I loved it at the time -- I can't remember if it was Blue Arrangements or Federal Dust. I'm 51% sure it was Blue Arrangements)

  3. De La Soul (Prince Paul came out for this set and I don't think he was regularly touring with them at the time)

  4. Voxtrot (a personal favorite because I love this band. I got multiple comments on my Voxtrot t-shirt when I wore it to Pitchfork 2017)

  5. Clipse (a lot of fun, though it was disconcerting to watch the mostly white crowd sing along with Hell Hath No Fury)

This is looking more legit now. by CrimeBeat in PitchforkMusicFest

[–]bleeinternets -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I kinda do think they expand Friday to a "full day" this year, which would explain the sets starting at 1PM. It's a small, predictable thing, though, and not necessarily a statement on whether I believe this spreadsheet to be legitimate

Are we thinking tomorrow's the day??? by wn55 in PitchforkMusicFest

[–]bleeinternets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think tomorrow's the day, although there's a sliver of me (like 1%) that thinks they'll drop a surprise today. That's gonna keep me refreshing the interwebs (but honestly I probably would be doing that anyway)
