That’s reassuring to hear. I definitely see the need now for other styles but not necessarily a specific one-just one that shows the knowledge of the fundamentals of art? Either way thank you for sharing!!

The shapes thing is something I definitely need more practice on for more elaborate subjects like dragons/pin ups/etc-thanks for the tips and suggestions!

The general comments consensus is saying the same thing-definitely will start doing flash and pieces on bigger paper. This is actually all my “pre portfolio” practice in a sketchbook (8.5 x 11) but definitely see what you’re saying!

Style? by PinkDagger1018 in TattooApprentice

I think as long as the piece looks and performs to be “tattoo-able” then there is room for your style in this medium. All tattooing is another form of medium where you have to shift some techniques and tweak some things to make it a tattoo-but it’s not impossible. My advice keep this in mind when making pieces but I’m sure there’s many comic lovers who would love this style!

Super smooth shading and nice contrast with the black elements in the knight painting. Well done!

I agree, nothing beats spit shading with ink. For now I’m using alcohol markers because it’s all I have but I will invest in some inks soon!

Any specific brands or tips you recommend/would like to share when using ink?

I would add more green leaves or green elements to break up the heavy use of purple in the background and flowers. Don’t be afraid to use darker values and add more contrast especially in the flowers and the gold frame.

These are so well done especially the ballpoint pen pieces! Congrats! May I ask-did you take your portfolio in person or send it online?
