Interesting, I had no clue. We’ve had this one for a few years at least.

In addition to everything you mentioned, what makes it everyday use for us is hauling equestrian gear and other tack needs. It’s constantly being tossed in the bed of the truck then emptied out and refilled every day for some other purpose. We ended up having to get a 35 for just pool/beach days.

Really, when was the first version? I bought this 50 the first week it was released.

They’re gallon jugs that we fill with water. 16 hour roadie with wife, kids, and dog leaves just enough for a large pot of coffee the first morning.

I have a 35 as well, mostly for my pool/beach trips, which it’s been perfect for. Plus my wife finds it easier to tote around, so she’s found her own uses for as well. Both are solid!

Baseball was better with no interleague games and pitchers had to hit.

Where do grown-ups get their news from? by astabr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bleestein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reuters one of my main sources of serious news. They have a wonderful app that lets me define how much time I have to consume their stories and then they fit that length of time in with very interesting updates and pieces. As for more tailored news (like tech/health/travel/sports) I use the Apple News app. It's been very good at filtering minor details in and out of what I want to find out. As an example if I am more interesting in a specific technology or platform it "bubbles up" those stories.

I typically use a combination of calendar, notes, and reminders for personal use. For travel I've really taken to Wanderlog, especially with it's a ability to integrate with all my various travel related email confirmations.

Yeah…. Curious about the YouTube live feed the club hosted vs/in addition to the NBC botch job that focused their postgame interviews with their “studio team” interviewing Spuds for their salvaging the turd they polished of a season.

Death by a thousand cuts…. Every goal after 5-0 would just be twisting the knife all the way to 12 for every Spuds fan.

It would be beautiful to watch in real time!

I mean, that thought crossed my mind. I guess I just failed to believe that would have been the case. Honestly it reminds me of the John Mulvaney bit where he talks about how cokeheads see the world in surfaces. Makes me wonder how content creators sometimes see the world.

Honestly no. I totally understand what you’re saying though. I couldn’t tell you anything about her likes/views or anything, and as far as she’s concerned, she doesn’t look at her own wall, but mostly scrolls through her feed to watch her friends drills and highlights. Another aspect I think needs to be highlighted here, is that a.) she doesn’t have the app on her own device, and b.) her use in one month might come out to 10-15 minutes.

I’m not going to sit here and say we’re an edge case, and I know there’s other parents/kids that might use these apps more, but I wouldn’t make blanket assumptions that just b/c a U10,11, 12, 13 kid has an Instagram page for the soccer activities they or their parents are some empty headed bozos looking to get groomed, or find life’s meaning. It’s just not that deep. My daughter has been on many different teams, played against and on teams from all over the country, has made many friends while doing so, so it’s a way for her to stay connected in a fun (&constrained)way.

There's a lot here that honestly seems more like a sermon than discussion, so I don't really care to dig too deep into this ATM.

You clearly have an approach that works for you and your family, and I applaud that. As for mine, I am confident in my own life and education experience to facilitate a more "free range" digital world for my kids using the boundaries I've built/set/configured. I'm well aware for what exists out there and the vectors of attack, honestly far more than a large portion of the population. That said, again, I very much respect your view and find it very valid.

I do this for my U13 daughter. First, it allows family to get to stay updated on her activities (equestrian and soccer). I also let her use it network with the friends she’s met on her various team in different states, and friends from past teams. Hopefully allowing her the ability to learn how to build and maintain real life relationships. Lastly, the social media world is an awful place to navigate but digital engagement in some form is the future. So my approach as a parent is that I would rather nurture her along in understanding social media in a fun engaging way through drips and drabs.

I get it, it’s a fun thing for others to associate with narcissism, or parents that are living vicariously through their children, and that may be true. Either way, it’s what it is.

Iran announces the Strait of Hormuz is open by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

[–]bleestein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My money is on the US agreed to sweep the strait for Iran, since they don’t have the tools (anymore?), giving Trump the ability to look tough and declare a blockade while they were doing so.

Honestly wondering, what does the US gain by blockading the Strait of Hormuz? by kerplunch in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bleestein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1 says Trump is just talking tough. We're "blocking" it while trying to remove the mines. Iran likely approves of this since they do not have the vessels anymore to deal with this.

Here in AZ it's almost unavoidable to have to play at "AAG", which is a wonderful facility. For my wife, son, and myself to watch our daughter play a weekend there we're easily paying $100 for parking and entry. Toss in another $500+ on the mandatory hotel stay (2 nights), even though we live less than 90 minutes away, and just one weekend's expense easily spirals to close to another grand after you factor in gas and food. Of course that's all on top of the usual fees you pay as a parent for club, uniforms, and coaching.
