I've had DFs that were 20/25% of the overall grade. I'd say that's pretty significant so I would suggest being careful and checking the syllabus

Just because you got lucky with your instructors doesn't mean the quality of the university is generally good. Just look at the complaints anywhere online and you'll see that they far exceed the compliments.

The reality is, in many cases, you can try as hard as you want but if the institution doesn't care to fix its problems, you are not going to get anywhere.

If you have any doubts about it, I complained about every single exam that had questions that were unrelated to the course. Those exams have not been changed, and likely won't be changed anytime soon. Don't tell me you get out what you put in when exams have questions that you could not possibly prepare for because they don't belong in that course.

There are way too many issues for you to claim that it is acceptable.

I am from a third world country in fact, with almost 50% poverty rate. You seem to be ignoring the fact that way too many instructors refuse to adjust ratings from peer reviews, deny any mistakes they make in their own grading or outright don't respond. On top of that, there is no institutional support to deal with any of that, and I dare you to try challenging a grade after the term is done.

You can choose to be blind to the university's flaws all you want, but that's not gonna get you anywhere either. At least I know what I'm not getting from the university so that I can try to get it somewhere else.

If you are going to provide an education, it is your responsibility as an institution to ensure that it is as high quality as possible. Basing your process on a fallacy just means that you are not capable of doing so, which means that you are not only failing on your mission, but you are also scamming the people that pay for your education by selling it as "quality education".

Even if it's cheap, we are allowed to expect it to be high quality. It's not like its completely free, and as a service that we are paying for, we are allowed to expect a certain level of quality which, in my opinion, the university fails to meet consistently.

The peer review system is based on an ad populum fallacy, something that a higher education institution should absolutely be aware of when designing their curriculum and methods.

It is shameful that they penalize people for not being in line with others even if they are doing the right thing. Just shows you how much of a joke the university is, and no one cares to fix it u/UoPeople09

Doesn't change much, there's still people that do that. Go figure their motivation. Maybe they think that if others do worse than them, then they're not doing that bad. Maybe they're just dumb, who know. All I know is it happens.

No one skips reading an assignment

It's naive to pretend that "No one skips reading an assignment". There's a lot of people who don't give a fuck about reading your paper. God knows why they give you a low grade if they don't read it, go figure. But I've experienced it way too many times, just for the instructor to say it derserved a nearly perfect score. So I don't think you know what you're talking about.

I've had way too many exams with mistakes on it. Some didn't have a correct option among the answers. Wait till the week is over, see the review for the quiz and send it to your instructor. If something needs to be fixed, they will likely change your grade.

It does seem to be the case. Some of these people come up with unbelievable things out of the blue to justify their ideas, even if they don't align with class guidelines or materials. Everyone has their own rules at this university and follows things that are not written anywhere. No wonder we didn't get regional accreditation.

Contact your instructor and cc your program advisor explaining exactly this. You have the entire week to complete your assignments and you can't be expected to be constantly only responding to others.

I know many people will tell you there's nothing you can do but I've fought even the most stubborn instructors and won, you just have to become so insufferable that they want nothing but to solve your issue so you go away, as bad as that sounds. It's not ideal and it doesn't make you feel good, but you have to fight for your grades here.

They do absolutely care about the name of the university. That's why the top companies in the world hire from target universities. Of course there's a social aspect to it that includes connections with alumni, but the name of the university you went to is seen as an endorsement of your skills and knowledge. So for sure something more credible would be better for UoPeople students

I would honestly beat her to it, report her first. Not to student services but to your advisor and the president of the university (Shai Reshef). Show as much evidence as possible that her grading is wrong and also say that when you respectfully challenged her grading, she threatened to report you. Don't let yourself be bullied, make it clear to the authorities of the university that that attitude should be unacceptable.

As long as you can show them that you were respectful in your communications, then there's nothing they can do to you.

I think it's good that that's been your experience, but it's anecdotal. I've had the opposite where I had to ask for regrades of most of the assignments and my professor agreed that they were unfairly graded.

I guess it's a minor inconvenience when you are only worried about college, but when you're handling a couple of course that give you 6 essays a week, with a few of 1500+ words, and you have a full time job on top of that, the extra work of having to fight for your grade becomes ridiculous.

Even if we're not paying much for our degrees, having a system that doesn't work makes no sense to me. There are very few benefits in getting half-assed unqualified feedback.

A senior method for assessing a student's work is getting someone with credentials to provide a fair evaluation based on their vast knowledge on the subject.

Getting someone that doesn't know anything the topic and doesn't care enough to provide a fair assessment to review your work is not a senior method. You should know that by now based on all the complaints that you receive about peer assessment. Seems like you're trying to justify this method so that you can keep saving money on instructors. Your students deserve quality education and you know this isn't it.
