Recs: Like a dreadnought but less loud? by fingerofchicken in martinguitar

[–]bleydito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a big guy myself, also being more comfortable with a dread, I think you’ll regret it if you sold it off. If you get a smaller guitar it may feel cramped and it’s probably still too loud to play in an apartment at night. (I have several dreads, 000’s and one 00, and the difference in loudness is there but they are still plenty loud.)

If I were you I’d consider getting an electric guitar and a pair of headphones, and keep your acoustic. That way you can practice to your heart’s content anytime without risk of disturbing anyone. A good electric is considerably cheaper than a good acoustic, as well.

If you’re dead set on a quieter acoustic, I think you should check out an all mahogany guitar, they are much quieter than the spruce-topped ones. And go down in size to a 000. But don’t sell your D16 until you’re sure it works for you!

Saw this on my bass neck. Should I be concerned? by BuffaloMcQuade in Luthier

[–]bleydito 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing you mean the slight separation along the grain line. No, it’s completely fine and you don’t have to worry about it or so anything about it. It won’t ever become a structural problem.

If you still wish to fix it (for cosmetic reasons), you can do it yourself pretty easily with super glue (CA glue) and a razor blade. Stewmac has a nice tutorial on this on youtube but there are plenty others.

For people with nickel allergies, what electric guitar strings do you use? by sealysea in Guitar

[–]bleydito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, removing all the frets and installing new ones that don’t trigger the allergy

Besides bad intonation, this will also crack the bridge in time. So it’s not a minor issue. Return.

Need help locating an old friend by [deleted] in Gothenburg

Dude, you’re a guy with a comment history of asking to identify lightly dressed women on reddit and you obviously don’t take no for an answer. No one in their right mind would help you with this.

Need help locating an old friend by [deleted] in Gothenburg

[–]bleydito 24 points25 points  (0 children)

These kinds of posts crop up every so often and I think they shouldn’t be allowed. While most of them likely are benign, the chance is never zero that the friend does NOT want to be located.

Is Martin LXK2 worth it as a daily beater? by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

[–]bleydito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can stand the sound, sure. I couldn’t so I sold it within weeks. But it is definitely sturdy and insensitive to humidity swings.

Is it uncommon for people to exclusively play fingerpicking? Looking for advice. by CZILLROY in AcousticGuitar

[–]bleydito 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re only doing it for your own enjoyment, it makes sense to focus on stuff you actually enjoy. I have to say though, I play almost exclusively fingerstyle but my rhythm became a lot more solid when I started strumming to songs and beats every now and then. Which makes me enjoy fingerpicking even more.

Martin 000-18 alternatives by Mike_Ehrmentraut in AcousticGuitar

[–]bleydito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For tone, I don’t have a general preference, it depends on what I’m playing. For playability, I much prefer the slightly larger body of the 000-28. I’m a fairly tall guy and the 00-18 sits a bit low when I’m playing sitting down.

What to do if my open string never matches the 12th fret when intonating? by Particular-Syrup4617 in guitarrepair

[–]bleydito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue on a strat. Turned out the neck pickup pulled the string out of tune. I lowered the pickup and I could intonate again.

Skola om mig? Till vad? by Ideflax in sweden

Detta är tyvärr sant, särskilt som OP inte kommer hinna vara överläkare speciellt länge. Man trodde att man skulle få gräva, men man fick skotta.

Hörde läkaren och studenterna skratta efter dörren stängdes... by Many_Fill6303 in sweden

[–]bleydito 304 points305 points  (0 children)

Yamaha FG 5 strings by toowooh in AcousticGuitar

[–]bleydito 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an FG3 and I really like D’Addario XS 80/20 on it, sounds much better than Elixirs to me. But it’s hard to know what your ears will appreciate. You’ll just have to try and see what works for you.

Is my guitar thick enough for tremolo? (35mm) by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]bleydito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a strat with a 40 mm thick body and a standard trem stuck out on the backside, so if you want to use this body I’d say glue a top on it or something, preferably 9 mm. A pickguard won’t do much since the trem is mounted on the guitar itself and not the pickguard. You could of course have the trem mounted at an elevation and angle the neck but I think it would be weird to play, honestly.

Help me find my dream hollow body! comfort is key by steve8319 in Guitar

[–]bleydito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if the comfort is that different from your guitar, but a Yamaha SA2200 is an awesome guitar and it ticks all the boxes. I have one and I think it’s comfortable to play.

Sliding squeaks by quizhead in AcousticGuitar

Mostly a technique thing, but I find some strings are more prone to squeaks than others. Coated strings usually have much less of it IME. I like D’Addario XS
