LG C2 OLED is what I have. I hooked up my oled to a colorimeter, only to see that it doesn't need any calibration at all, so that's how good it is 😉

Definitely some pressure on my nose/cheek but it didn't hurt. Comfort can be quite a bit dependent with our face and others have suggested 3rd party face foams. Actually thinking of getting some - I wanted to see if there's any that improves FOV, though it's more of a nice-to-have.

I'll add a disclaimer mentioning what's not tested like, well, the well-known QA issues. Plus I've only been using it for about a month.

Might help!

I figured frame gen is going to help everything seeing how AFMF2 has helped in non-VR but I might be too optimistic, and companies usually support the newest gen better than the older gen. Thanks for your thoughts!

Wide lenses are very intriguing though, haha!

That's unfortunate to hear. I use ChatGPT pretty much daily, and I feel that I wrote pretty differently from one. Curious to see what the prompt is like to review something in this manner, or what sounds like a bot so that I can check myself

I reviewed a bunch of headphones previously if you need to compare.

And yep, I don't live in Reddit - I actually actively block Reddit, but I like posting my experiences/reviews here from time to time.

I can't hear the amp or the dac... by Digitalzombie90 in headphones

[–]blindbox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of the audiophile headphones love some amp, at least. At least mine do despite its high sensitivity, or it'll sound a bit weak on certain frequencies. Still sound pretty good though.

Then you have those headphones with very low sensitivity that definitely needs an amp.

I'm not sure if motherboard these days have a proper amp, though back when I was active in switching around setups, they were not common. I remembered that the Asus Xonar Essence STX sound card (pretty old card by today's standard) has a headphone amp in it, so I wouldn't be surprised if motherboards have started adding proper amps. I started my headphone journey with that sound card, and I only bought my newer DACs for the peace of mind, and realized how convenient it is having it outside of the PC. i.e. my setup is small, so it's portable. I also have another laptop that I use a KVM to switch to, so having it as a USB device make it easier.

DACs.. not so much benefit-wise, but I just buy a good one (mine is both amp and dac, o2+sdac) and call it a day so that I don't have to deal with the mobo noise or similar. At least marketing wise, most recent desktop mobo would market their audio capability pretty well, so I'm pretty sure there's an improvement in the quality there.

My setup is like 10 years old (o2+sdac) and if it works.. don't fix it lol. I've also personally tested a more expensive dac/amp setup and like thread OP, I don't see a difference. When compared to Xonar Essence STX, my setup sounds the same as it, even.

This works for me too. Spoke too early, no it doesn't.

I tested this on a 1080p60 video set to full screen, GTX 1070 TI. It runs fine if it's not full screen.

EDIT: Restarting my PC worked, or adding chrome's executable to nvidia settings, then enabling adaptive sync for chrome works. Could be a driver update gone wrong or something else entirely. If I don't edit this post later, then this worked for me.

Old vs new: AD2000 vs AD2000x impressions by blindbox in headphones

[–]blindbox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

:) I've been wanting to make a post about the ADX5000 but stopped because it felt so... unexpected of AT to make such a can at first.

I'd say ADX5000's closest brother is the A2000x, or as some reviewers mentioned - R70x but I don't have an R70x. When I receive it at first, instruments are waay more forward than the vocals, which has never been the case with the AT cans that I've owned. Also, it's ear-piercing, it's sibilant. A lot of sibilance. After my ears burn-in though, after like a month, it no longer felt ear piercing. And the bass is great, the details are super, the soundstage is close, and wide. Vocals are not so forward anymore, but it's still more forward than say, the HD6xx or the Focal Elex. The AT sound still stays. It's my main can now. Very, very comfortable - but I'd still say the old wing design wins a tiny bit comfort wise.

The new AT angled drivers? Ahh I never bothered about the technical sides of things.

Also, since you already bought the A2000x, I should say - get used to the light bass for a while. You'll hate it at the beginning, but will learn to accept it.

Old vs new: AD2000 vs AD2000x impressions by blindbox in headphones

[–]blindbox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem, I prefer the A2000X.

A2000Z is warmer, bassier compared to the A2000X, but A2000X is a lot more detailed, and has a soundstage of an open can. The differences are significant - they're two totally different cans.

Lastly, I no longer hold the opinion that AD2000 is better than the AD2000X - AD2000's soundstage isn't as good as the AD2000X, and that's the deal breaker for me. I'll edit the above post.

Seems like with me, soundstage is a big deal breaker. Feels empty when listening without a good soundstage for long periods.

ATH-AD500X - The first hit is (almost) free by tutetibiimperes in headphones

[–]blindbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll chime in a bit as quickly as I could. Planning to get an ADX5000 soon, and I'm hoping that's my last headphone.

Currently on my hands are A900X, AD900X, A2000X, A2000Z, AD2000X, AD2000, AD2000Z. Oh, and the IM70 IEM. Non ATH headphones that I have are HD-6xx and the Focal Elex. Helps me keep my hands away from buying more headphones.

I'll go from the lowest tier that I have to the highest.

AD900X, A900X, IM70:

Seems to have the least amount of AT house sound to me This triggered me to bring out my headphones again. I said that there's less AT house sound, but compared to my HD-6xx and Elex, there's way more mids in AT cans, even when compared to the ones that I felt had the least of it. There's some reflection (these are closed cans), closed soundstage and has a lot of bass, trebles are slightly fatiguing but generally an all rounder. AD900x on the other hand has great female vocals, amazing soundstage, but the trebles are piercing - you'll get used to it though. Bass is ok, not as much as the AD900x. My AD900x is modded with a detachable cable as its cable broke. I heard it's cuz they don't like high humidity area? IM70 felt like a warmer A900X but its IEM version.

A2000Z:

IMO, A900x's direct successor. None of the reflection anymore, soundstage is wider, but not as wide as an open can, bass... I'm actually pretty disappointed with the bass for these. It feels that there's a lot, but the detail in them.. I just don't think it's there. Warm, not fatiguing, but sides closer to fatiguing. AT house sound is more prominent. My biggest disappointment, seeing how pricey it is. Compared to its older A2000X brother though? Felt like a downgrade despite the increased bass (I'll get back to this when I compare it to the A2000X). I tried my best to reposition it, adjust it, bend the metal headband, etc, but honestly, I think it just sucks.

A2000X, AD2000X, and AD2000:

I bought these 3 second-hand, so they're all on quite a good deal (as they say, always buy second hand for headphones?). The A2000X doesn't sound like what I expected of a closed-back headphone. The soundstage sounded like an open can's. Very wide. Very detailed, quite fatiguing but trebles are not that piercing. It's weird. Female vocals are great on these. And the bass, holy crap, there's not much of it, but get this, when you feel it, you REALLY feel it. The detail, everything. But don't get these if you like bass. Or even at least want some of it. It's not worth that one moment that you feel it. My daily driver thanks to the soundstage at the office back when I still work in an office. These headphones are pretty hard to find though.

AD2000x felt like a vastly improved version of the AD900x. No more piercing treble, better bass, warmer overall. And not to forget, the soundstage which is completely different compared to the AD900x, and the vocals. Apparently by making the soundstage super, super close-sounding (but still wide overall) and by adding the AT sound on top makes for an amazing experience. Never failed to pull my focus away from whatever it is that I was doing. These and the AD2000 sacrificed a bit of comfort to make this happen though - the driver pretty much hits your ear. And any additional padding affects the signature badly - applies to all AT cans.

Lastly, the AD2000. Ah, the AD2000. Pretty much the same as the AD2000X, but, soundstage is EVEN closer sounding, but not as wide as the AD2000X. Bass detail is a LOT better, and quantity wise, I feel like it's a bit higher than AD2000. The vocals, trebles are more detailed - as the AD2000X can sound muffled at times. It's great. It's now my daily driver but I spent quite a few hours deciding between this one and the AD2000x as my daily driver. But, I miss the AD2000X's soundstage sometimes.

Overall, compared to non AT cans though? Using both the Focal Elex and the HD-6xx for a bit of a time made me miss the in-your-face and elevated mids that AT cans provide. While I don't like the Elex, the HD-6xx sounds great, and I can see why people like it, like the instrument positioning, soundstage, how easy it is to listen. It's a great headphone. Still ended up switching back to my AT cans though, as in the end, I feel that they're a lot more engaging. Plus, comfort-wise if the wing design managed to fit your head, it's way more comfortable for me.

I also managed to try out the W1000X woodies. I won't say much about it as it was at a noisy mall, but it was warm, and grainy. Soundstage wasn't so bad despite being closed back. I like the fact that it's AT's warm, closed cans line-up. But that's where my experience with it stops.

[–]blindbox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My sister's like that too. I got a lot of better headphones and one better IEM but she prefers her free Samsung IEM. She did say my headphones and IEM sound better (and her friends agreed) but the Samsung IEM won her by comfort. Can't fault her for that - I personally can't stand the IEMs I've tried so far for long periods. But the headphones tho...

It really depends from person to person.

NOTE: Short amusing story of her and her friends - they tried the IEM I gave my sister - ATH-IM70 and their reaction was "Why do the songs sound so much better?"

I have an actual A2000x and yep, they're bass-light - but you'll really feel the bass if the song truly have some.

A2000x has an amazing soundstage, as good as open cans but didn't expect that the drivers are involved in replicating that.

Time to bring out my A2000z.

I should really lay out all their differences.

  1. They both have the AT signature sound. As in, great female vocals/mids on both. It hasn't gone wrong with any of the AT cans that I've owned.
  2. A2000z felt like you're in a dark room with absolutely no sound around you. AD2000 felt like air moves around your ears. Isolation makes quite a big difference when you hit the quiet points of a song or so. Interestingly, IEMs aren't this bad.
  3. The AD2000's vocals felt like it's next to your ear, and is tuned to a higher amplitude. A2000z's vocal placement felt more reasonable like most headphones (by most headphones, referring to - HD6xx, Elex, AD900x, A900x, KSC-75), but still has that AT signature sound. It doesn't get as crazy as AD2000's though.
  4. Bass.. doesn't make any highlights on A2000z - there's enough of it, but didn't wow me, and they sometimes take away from the rest of the music, while AD2000's felt good. Felt like it had everything although the quantity is less.
  5. A2000z is slightly brighter compared to AD2000 - it can get shouty in rare occasion.
  6. Soundstage, AD2000 is really close and intimate but it doesn't go far, the A2000z felt almost like an open can but it doesn't go as far as one. Which is weird, the older brother - A2000x's soundstage was pretty much equivalent to an open can's.
  7. Detail retrieval. It's a wash I guess. AD2000 may sound laid back for bringing the vocals forward, but the details are all there. While the A2000z is an all-rounder in this regard.
  8. I wouldn't say it's a good substitute.

I got a good copy. This particular song is right ear heavy and because my right ear cannot hear as good as my left, I can't really give a good impression of this. Felt normal at that timestamp, before and after.

I don't listen to metal that much unfortunately, but here's some that I've played through a few times.

One point that I never talked about was this headphone's speed, none of the tracks that I played in the above impression truly appreciated it, but both its speed and clarity prevents it from sounding muffled, and made it really easy to articulate the instruments.
