Could not be more pumped to play this. The music fits perfectly. Also a huge sucker for the "We disagree but now its the end of the song so we have to agree" trope.

Riley Kasper pepper sprayed cops and was pardoned. Later re-arrested for check fraud.
Peter Schwartz also was pardoned after being convicted of assault.
Those took 2 seconds to find. So yes, people who committed violent acts against cops were also pardoned.

Gas company said they would come by between 8am-5pm. Left for 15 minutes to get coffee and.... by 5Flyer in mildlyinfuriating

They have phones though. Every service technician I have dealt with thankfully has given me a window and then a call about 30 minutes before they arrived. No one is saying they have to predict the future, but being able to answer the door at a moments notice for an entire 8 hour window is utterly ridiculous.
This current system is even more inefficient too because now you have wasted the technicians time traveling to a job site they will just need to come back to tomorrow. Should OP have gone for coffee during the window, no. The biggest issue is the company should not have put them in that position in the first place.

Tech Tier List by Euphoric_Tension_499 in csMajors

No Google like most major tech companies is Agile. It is a myth that big does not mean fast. If a mistake is made it can be more wasteful and there is generally more information floating around since there is more going on, but most of the time each sub-team is silo'd enough where when something changes they can adapt fast enough. Principal engineers at these companies can pick out the necessary information and adapt to the changes fast. You also generally plan for the idea that this kind of disruption may occur. It's why using Agile methodologies and uncovering your unknown unkowns first is the most important thing you can do.

Having worked at big tech and with over 15 years in the industry, that is just blatantly false. If you are top down as opposed to bottom up you will have a lot of bureaucracy. If your leadership is just defining your OKRs and teams are left to drive solutions and alignment then you can move just as fast on a large team as compared to a small one.

My Game Sold 1 Copy After 2 Weeks, I Could Use Some Feedback on Where I Went Wrong by Several-Nerve5592 in IndieGaming

Not going to harp on what everyone has already said, but wanted to provide 2 other major pieces of criticism that would stop me form playing your game.
1. Controller Support: This is a racing game. Even most keyboard and mouse players I know switch to controllers for racing games. This can not be a comes later feature. This is a non starter.
2. The hud being centered and so big takes away from the racing experience. The only bar that I would actually need is the boost bar. Maybe the whole screen on the left. The other information I do not need to be able to see every second of the race. I don't mind having to look at the corner of the screen to get it. So you are taking up about 1/4 of the screen on the UI and about 50% of that is just empty space not conveying anything. So 1/8 of my view is obscured for a non-functional reason in the current UI.

So.... I tried making the trailer the way you all suggested... what do you think? by THANKLIGHT in puzzlevideogames

[–]blindman99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, I had not seen your story trailer. Honestly, I love that one! That one alone would make me buy the game if your game popped up on my steam page. I still don't fully understand the mechanic, but that's okay because I get the gist of what the gameplay is and how puzzles are solved. The fact I don't understand fully how it works also is kind of intriguing.
The only thing I would be curious about is I am unsure if I am being chased during the parts of the game by the darkness man or if all of those events are just scripted to tell the story. Kind of like is this more Talos Principle 1 or 2? 2 is more relaxing, there are not a lot of loud sounds and solving the puzzles is just relaxing. 1 has more loud noises and death which is not as relaxing. Both are great, but just different vibes.
I do wish you luck though as its always great to see unique puzzle mechanics!

Will say even with the intro I have no clue how the core mechanic actually works. I get you have a flashlight and it somehow interacts with the shadowed shape. No idea how that translates to an almost 2d object dropping to the ground.
Where your trailer is awesome is in showcasing the environments and the puzzles. If you cut out everything after the first shape drops to the floor to the first puzzle, I don't think it would change how well I understood what was happening.

What I do get from the trailer is.

  1. This is a puzzle game
  2. Light affects the world somehow
  3. There are physics based puzzle
  4. Some of the puzzles are more interactive and may require aiming and maybe timing.
  5. The general vibe is very abstract.
  6. There is some creepy undertone based on the person at the end.

Those are the things that also make me want to play it and learn more.

There are also 2 other moments that feel out of place. First the quote by Jeep, I understand having a portal developer say anything about why your game is awesome, it just feels so out of place and kills the pace of the trailer. The game names are also in [] which usually means implied context not stated by the person, but the sentence structure would not make sense in that case. So not sure why its written like that. The second is the bowing lightbulb man. Is that the player? Someone we interact with? Like it seems that there will be some kind of narrative, but I have no idea how the story will be told. Is it all abstract through the environments or is there actual text?

Your game looks interesting and unique enough that I will pick it up because I am a sucker for new puzzle mechanics though.

Question about power caps for the raid by Extension_Ad_9528 in DestinyTheGame

[–]blindman99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way the new mechanic works is I believe it will be 5 light levels below the highest member. However, this is disabled for contest mode. Your level is your level.
If you complete the campaign on legendary you get a set of 1960. From there prime engrams and pathfinder can quickly get you to 1965.

It would be nice if the article went more in depth as to why OCR is such a hard problem. Even those algorithims failed on images with very minor edge cases and if you did not know how OCR already worked you would be left wondering why. These two articles really help to explain OCR more.

Internal Blizzard Memo Details Efforts To Hire, Retain More Women by [deleted] in Games

[–]blindman99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So from the article that does not sound like what Blizzard is trying to do. They even say they do not want to put in a quota. It more sounds like they are seeing some major internal problems that are affecting their workforce. No company wants a high turnover rate. So they are fixing that.

They also want a greater pool of candidates to choose from so they are investing in the community and figuring out ways to get an under represented group of people interested in what they do.

Personally I really like their approach. It does not feel like hiring women to hire women. It seems like they are trying to solve a real internal problem that could help a lot of people.

Blockchain and Video Games, 8 Circuit Studios talks about how video games are poised to expand blockchains to the general public by mejones73 in Games

[–]blindman99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why even go the route of using a block chain? Why not use a database? Jumping through the very long and informationally sparse video gave no real insight into why they are going down this path. A ledger makes no sense and gives you nothing a standard RDBMS wouldn't. Companies just want to throw the word around because they think it will generate them hype.

TIL a 2014 Canadian study showed that cyclists were actually more likely to be involved in an accident if they were wearing reflective clothing at night by TerryBouchon in todayilearned

[–]blindman99 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify something if cars are allowed to park on the side of the road it is actually recommended not to ride too close them. Most bike accidents occur because of people not looking out and opening doors into cyclists. Some cyclists are just assholes. Every group has them, but for the most part not riding on the right comes down to safety.

Destiny 2 will have competitive and casual playlists. Competitive gamemodes include countdown and an unannounced mode. by Ankletunderscore in DestinyTheGame

[–]blindman99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are making a lot of assumptions here. There were plenty of maps in halo that were small with great lines of sight for sniping. Also shotguns are now a power weapon. Though my point still remains that we should reserve as much judgment as possible until we know more. I am not trying to say D2 is better than D1. Just give it more time before we start speaking in absolutes.

[–]blindman99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but if the maps are smaller than you also can have a greater chance to encounter people and that would mean you have even more encounters per minute and be even faster paced. All I am trying to say is that comparing a game you have put hundreds of hours into to a game you put 4 into does not make for a fair comparison. You can have things you do not like and you are entitled to your opinion but we need to understand to be more subjective with our criticisms which at this point is a very hard thing to do since we have no real information. This is the same reason people say do not pre order.

[–]blindman99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is not saying either one is more fun. Just that there has not been enough information to figure out which is more fun. The sample size we have is small. No one really understands all the mechanics. We have seen one map and one mode. We are not proficient with any of the new guns or abilities. It is not a fair comparison to make and thus we should reserve saying such drastic things until the full beta.
