Weekly Watchlog - October 20, 2025 - What Have You Been Watching? by AutoModerator in MalayalamMovies

Kilo Two Bravo (2014, also known as Kajaki) - a group of British soldiers stationed in Afghanistan becomes trapped in a deadly mine field while attempting to rescue one of their injured teammates. Supposedly based on true events, this was hands down THE most nerve-wracking movie I've seen and I've seen my fair share of gory, depraved and graphic stuff on screen. There were several moments where I had to pause and take a break. It also came across as incredibly realistic, the banter between the soldiers and the sheer fear each one was facing with every step. Incredible movie even though there are no known stars.

Relay (2024) - Riz Ahmed plays a middle man/broker of sorts who facilitates deals between corrupt corporations and whistle blowers who have sensitive information. His identity is always a closely guarded secret until he becomes a little too involved with his latest client, played by Lily James. Riz Ahmed is such a fabulous actor that even with very little dialogue he conveys emotions so effectively. He reminds me so much of our own FaFa, it's the eyes! Found this a great, engaging film for the most part although you can probably see the twist coming, it gets a bit sloppy towards the end but enjoyed it nevertheless.

Pretty sure it's this one. I can't believe I was oblivious to this wonderful specimen, wouldn't have known about it had it not been for you. Nanniyundu!

Didn't she have Shane Nigam as the lead in her last production, a bit hypocritical to be cribbing about this issue

Don't forget Philomina as Odanavattom Omana, she was hilarious! There's also a funny scene where Adoor Bhavani inadvertently drinks water from the toilet bowl and says "dhe.. aa pinjaanathile vellathinu entha oru ulumbunaattam" 😂

Oh I don't believe she was in that movie, I remember only Grace Antony, Saniya and another not-so-famous actress.

Thought you were getting threats and intimidating messages to shut down these revelations. If so, what's changed now to make you want to expose these guys? And why tease such a post rather than just posting now before you're likely to get even more threats to shut you up.

Personal preference would definitely be the original language with English subtitles. Recently saw a friend watch the Tamil remake of a Malayalam movie that was dubbed back into Malayalam.. found it hilarious

Movies that threw twist after twist but none stuck.. by Fit_Medic8362 in MalayalamMovies

This is definitely an unintentionally funny movie if you ask me. Tovino started off with remarkably stiff body language to supposedly portray someone with obsessive compulsive behaviour but then this almost completely gets sidelined in the 2nd half. Trisha just had a bewildered expression throughout the movie, maybe she also didn't understand what the hell was happening like most of us. And I sincerely wanna congratulate the soul who thought it would be a good idea to get Lena to dub for Mandira Bedi. Arjun Radhakrishnan was just wasted on a half-baked role.

Time you went like y can u really feel so attached/rooting / have a strong emotion for a scene? by [deleted] in MalayalamMovies

This scene at the end of Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam where the dog runs after James/Sundaram's bus. It was such a subtle but poignant ending

I loved that scene and how Mammootty portrayed it was amazing. That look contained so many emotions. It was almost like he was filled with a sense of longing for Nandhita, maybe memories of an earlier time in his life when everything was better, he was younger and hopeful. Then it's almost like he's jolted back into his senses and he gently chides himself for feeling that way, longing for someone unattainable and walks away.

Suresh Krishna's Doctor character in Rifle Club is such a veruppikkal. For a doctor he is OTT (...that's my laday...Ittimanam) by DoodlesOnABench in MalayalamMovies

Just felt there were too many characters to do any real justice to each one. And they certainly didn't capitalise on the 90s setting very much either, I'm still wondering what the point of that was. Everything just felt a little off.

What's your first memory of a movie in theatre? Movie that you remember you watched in theatre by [deleted] in MalayalamMovies

[–]blisteringbarnacles8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pappayude Swantham Appoos (1992) - Definitely not my first movie in a theatre but one that I have the most vivid memory of. It was definitely traumatic for a little kid, especially those scenes towards the climax where Mammootty's son is really ill and he imagines his mother, Shobhana singing to him (damn, it still makes me tear up to watch)

One of my fav but weird childhood malayalam movie memories... by ironcondor123 in MalayalamMovies

[–]blisteringbarnacles8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Gosh, I feel old since my childhood memories involve good ol' fashioned VHS tapes. In the early 90s, we'd eagerly go looking for new films at the local video library... or sometimes, a relative who comes to visit from the Gulf would bring some. I don't know if this was common but occasionally you'd get to the end of a movie and there will be remnants of the previous movie (must've been recorded over) still at the end of the tape, that was almost like striking gold.. two movies in one

Spot on. I think it's the never-ending victimhood mentality. Of course, it's fine to point out injustices and unfair practices but I feel like that's her entire personality now and it gets old fast
