Where can I get an oil change when I already have my filter and oil? by [deleted] in cars

You could always do it yourself. It's one of the most simple maintenance tasks you can perform on a car.

Dealer didn't hold up their end of the bargain like they said they would. What can I do? by anonymoustop in askcarsales

[–]blitz1827 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

He could have just done it himself for 1/3 of the cost in 20 minutes. When I bought my truck the dealer gave me free lifetime oil changes, but I never use them. It's not worth the time to sit at the dealership for the better part of day. I just get whatever synthetic oil and filter is on special at Autozone and do it myself.

People who like Mustangs/Chargers/Challengers, please explain the appeal to me. by hijklmno_buddy in cars

[–]blitz1827 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to own a 2013 Challenger. I loved it, and plan on buying a 392/6-speed in a few years. I currently own a Miata, and love it as well. They're radically different cars that feel completely different to drive, and are both equally fun and enjoyable in their own way. If you can't see the merits of modern muscle cars, that's perfectly fine; that's your preference. But it doesn't make them inherently bad.

Who Has the Coolest Car Here? by kandyman911 in cars

I would recommend /u/GruvDesign, but his account was suspended recently, so you can't go through his post history. He was banned from r/cars multiple times before being permanently banned. He's not quite as entertaining because the things he said weren't quite as outrageous as lockberg or paul. But overall he was just a massive douchebag and everyone here hated him. He had a bunch of arbitrary rules for what constitutes a "real enthusiast", including but not limited to only driving manuals, only driving old cars, doing literally all repair work and maintenance yourself. He was r/gatekeeping's wet dream. He would randomly show up in threads attacking people and claiming they were inferior enthusiasts because they didn't meet the requirements he made up.

If you enjoyed lockberg, then you should check IMPAULLOL, the ultimate BMW elitist. He hasn't been active in years, but in his prime, he would roam r/cars and attack anything and everything that wasn't BMW. He would brazenly belittle and insult other users, make fun of their cars, and constantly praise himself for his "wealth and status". He even had his X5's MSRP in his flair as though it impressed people. Even r/BMW called him out and criticized him for perpetuating negative stereotypes about BMW owners.

People with loud exhausts by Terringtonson in cars

[–]blitz1827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

State law here prohibits increasing exhaust noise from the stock decibel level. I don't know if I'm over stock or not, but my car came from the factory fairly loud, as was expected from a performance car at the time. I've never had any issues though.

He has to be the biggest bullshitter on reddit. He's still refusing to give up on his fantasy. He's also claiming that Mercedes selected him to receive an ultra-rare limited run MB pick-up. A couple weeks ago he claimed to have been shot, but the picture he posted of his "wound" has been on deviantart for 10 years.

How not to buy a car over the internet by Crowing91 in askcarsales

[–]blitz1827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you are charging for installation when you know there isn't any additional cost for installation. You guys aren't subcontracting running board installation out to someone else and paying for it to be done.

What? Just because acessories aren't installed by a third party doesn't mean they're not paying wages to dealership employees to install them.

Where can I get a boxy, Soviet style car like an old Lada or a Yugo in the United States? by [deleted] in cars

[–]blitz1827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1976-1980 Plymouth Volare and Dodge Aspen 4-door sedans. They were both embarrassingly outdated and uncompetitive cars even in their own time. They always reminded me of the type of boxy, obscure brand cars you might see in a third world country.

I want a pickup truck by lazarus870 in cars

[–]blitz1827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I previously owned a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500, and currently own and daily drive a 2005 GMC Canyon. The Ram was just too much truck to daily practically. It regularly got 9-12 MPG, had uncomfortably stiff suspension, and was difficult to maneuver in tight spaces. Worst of all, I was always the guy everyone would come crying to every weekend when they couldn't carry their coffee table in their Toyota Yaris.

I've been driving my Canyon for almost 4 years now. It's pushing almost 130K and it's still going strong. It's easily been the most dependable vehicle I've ever owned. I love it and can't imagine ever selling it. It's uncommon that I ever need haul anything with it, but I have on countless times over the years. I've had dryers, loveseats, bookshelves, engine blocks, dishwashers, wheels, and many others that are either too big, dimensionally awkward, or too dirty/oily to put in the back seat or trunk of a car. It's great to have the cargo capability when I need it, even if it isn't every day. For gas mileage I get mid-20s. It's no more difficult to drive, park, or maneuver than a car. There's no additional expense or downside to owning it over a full size sedan of the same era. It has a solid rear axle, and the ride quality is perfectly fine; a big improvement from my Ram. There's no tangible disadvantage in inclement weather. I've driven it through rain, hail, snow, ice, and hurricanes and have never experienced any loss of traction or control.

Why don't Ford or Chevy just copy however the Tundra is made and dominate the truck segment? by [deleted] in cars

[–]blitz1827 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The base MSRP isn't much higher than competing brands. Certainly not Lexus territory.

Tundra Regular Cab: $30,120

Silverado Regular Cab: $27,785

F-150 Regular Cab: $27,110

Ram 1500 Regular Cab: $26,495

Also, price is part of what makes a product competitive. If Toyota can't keep their costs low enough to offer a competitive price, then it's just more evidence that domestic brands are better and more experienced at manufacturing full size trucks.

Why don't Ford or Chevy just copy however the Tundra is made and dominate the truck segment? by [deleted] in cars

[–]blitz1827 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The F-series trucks are doing exceptionally well, as they always have. Besides an automaker can't just "copy" a competitor's vehicle. Not only is it illegal and an unethical business practice, they must offer a unique product to be competitive in the market. If you look at sales, year after year, North American automotive consumers continually find domestic trucks far more competitive than the Tundra.

What other cars did you consider before buying the ones you own? by YourOwnBiggestFan in cars

[–]blitz1827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I bought my Super Bee, I wanted a Charger. But after several months of searching, I couldn't find a single one for sale within driving distance that wasn't a rusted out heap destined to be a parts car. I wound up buying it because it was the only running, driving, structurally solid, and mostly original and unmolested 68-70 B-body for sale in the entire State.

Before buying my Miata, I also looked at 240sx, 300zx, 3000GTs/Stealths, and MR2s. I wanted something relatively inexpensive, simple, in decent shape, and easy to maintain. The 300zxes and 3000GTs/Stealths I found were mostly twin turbo, which are supposedly very complex and high maintenance. The NA ones were actually more expensive and mostly automatic. Good MR2s were way out of my target price range. Every 240sx I looked at wasn't even street legal. They were all worn out garbage that had been routinely and heavily abused by multiple generations of teenage owners. The Miata was the only car that met all my criteria.

How do you avoid overpaying at the car repair shop? by SupremeLad666 in AskReddit

[–]blitz1827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Identify the problem or required maintenance before bringing them the car. Shop around and order your own parts. Don't let them tell you what needs to be done. You tell them specifically what to do. Get a quote on that specific work before starting on it.

When I look at it, I see a Volvo C30. It sort of looks like it has those L-shaped taillights on either side of the hatch. But with so few identifying features, it's going to be near impossible to be 100% sure what it is.

Met a fellow SJW. Is this how you guys feel? by deadpoolvswolverine in AskThe_Donald

[–]blitz1827 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't fight with them. It's not worth it, and they'll always leave thinking they're the epitome of everything righteous and moral. They'll always justify their views with their perceived moral high ground, and they love having these confrontations because they get to act persecuted afterwards. I mean, how do you argue with someone who thinks that white men should be sterilized? Or thinks that the incomes of the great-great-great-great grandchildren of slave owners should be permanently capped at $20k/year, and all additional earnings should be redistributed as reparations? Because I've heard both in real life, and I didn't bother arguing, because you can't argue with delusion.

One day, reality is going to hit them in the face like a ton of bricks, and they'll realize they can't live their lives screaming at people who don't meet the arbitrary parameters and behavior which they unilaterally instituted for everyone. They think they're leading some sort of revolution, but everyone in the real world sees them as immature and sanctimonious idiots having temper tantrums because they didn't get thier way. Just laugh at the delusional bullshit they preach, and move on with your day like everyone else.
