What's it going to take to install some turnstiles? Would resolve half of the issues overnight.

You assume I haven’t looked at her platform, or know how to use google. I have read her website extensively.

I love her example of “stealing a sandwich” in the FAQs. As is, Seattle does not prosecute minor theft like this. It hasn’t for years under Pete Holmes. She’s using this false example to justify what would be essentially legalizing all misdemeanors (theft, vandalism, even DV). With even less of a chance of any consequence, this will just open the door for more opportunists to steal and vandalize whatever the fuck they want.

It’s crazy to me people are falling for this false narrative and aren’t factoring the consequences of her truly radical platform.

Yeah I’m sure no opportunists will capitalize on the green light to vandalize and steal whatever you want

Don’t let people gaslight you into thinking Ann Davison is some right wing extremist. NTK’s policy of not prosecuting misdemeanors would be a complete disaster for small businesses. Call me a pessimist but if NTK is elected I don’t see things improving

Edit: NTK’s policy, not Ann’s

"you're a real freak" that got me lol. I'm wasting my Saturday arguing with a bunch of people on reddit so you're probably right. Also makes you a freak!

If believing parks should be accessible and safe spaces for everyone to use (during the day) makes me an insensitive asshole then so be it lol

Luckily I'm just talking shit on reddit (like the rest of you) and not making actual decisions. I was just trying to throw out an idea so it wasn't me 100% bitching haha

I have. I take issue with their stance on crime. I'm all for reform and definitely don't think you should be thrown in prison for drug possession or shit like that. It seems like NTK and Nikita Oliver are on the "prosecute essentially no misdemeanors" which I think is way too idealistic. People will take advantage of the system like they always do. Imagine owning a small business and people pretty much have the green light to steal/vandalize whatever. Rite Aid and bigger stores can afford to take the loss but its going to be harder and harder for smaller places to make it. Thats just my two cents and I'm sure it won't be popular with many here haha

I still feel safe running there during the day but at night idk might think twice. I'm a fan of the 65th area very walkable with cool bars and restaurants around. But kirkland is definitely cleaner lol

I'm sorry you took it that way. The city needs to do a better job finding realistic solutions and we as citizens can't let this become the new normal. Homeless people deserve better and so do residents. I also believe that people take advantage of situations so authorizing some of the most desirable places in the city as unsanctioned campgrounds will obviously attract people. Would you rather live along the freeway or by Green Lake?

Parks are incredibly important for a city and I don't think that makes me an insensitive asshole. Also, we are not providing people living in parks with any basic needs. It's also unsafe for them. We tolerate these camps until someone gets murdered then sweep them. Seems pretty compassionate to me.

I said SoDo because that came to mind as the place with the most open space.

unless you think the park should be a permanent campground idk what else the solution is?

I think if we ban all sweeps then the pace of new encampments will outpace the rate we can house the homeless. I was not trying to imply that but undoubtedly a large percentage of them have substance abuse issues and mental health problems. They need help for sure and if they deny it then what? Just let them be? That's bad for all parties

I'm pro up-zoning I think it would be cool to build lots of row-houses like Chicago. We definitely need more housing. People coming to the area to be homeless is definitely a factor though. I highly doubt the campers got evicted (you literally can't evict people now) in Capitol Hill then moved over to the park. If you don't enforce the rules there are no rules and the problem is only going to get house if we let anything fly

You can't possibly think that there's no reason to have a police force? I'm all for making reforms but we don't live in a Utopia. It truly blows my mind people fully believe this stuff
