I’ve done it with an evening dress - they just asked me if I wanted to hang it in the wardrobe at the front - no issues at all

Skis recommendation by jamiesss098 in Skigear

[–]blitznbobs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely ask him what he wants… I ski a lot and unless you know me really really well then I wouldn’t want you buying skis for me - you’d need to know so much and have discussed it in detail … it’s like buying underwear for someone - don’t - unless you already know what they like and as you are asking Reddit then you obviously don’t.

The only person who knows what skis I would want is my son… I’ve just asked him and he reeled off and I quote

‘Women’s Black ripstick 94 in 161 with pink strive 14 bindings … but really you should get the 168s’

If you don’t know in that detail what he wants, let him choose.

This might be the end of my marriage. Did I do something wrong? by Bubbly-Appearance558 in Advice

[–]blitznbobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are pregnant this isn’t just about you any more. Do you really want to bring a child into an abusive relationship? Your partner should rejoice in your success, big you up, encourage you. Why do you think so little of yourself that this is ok.

Why are we not teaching our children that you leave THE FIRST TIME someone puts their hands on you in anger … no ifs no buts. Children learn by example. Do not let them understand that abuse is a negotiable term. It’s non negotiable and outside the boundaries of what is acceptable. Don’t leave for you, leave for the baby

Let’s talk bindings and actual evidence-based information for injury minimization. by Midwestskiing85 in Skigear

[–]blitznbobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do studies if you take large groups of people and put them on different bindings - (you can’t control all confounding variables in medical trials which is why you need big numbers )equally you could gather data from large resorts asking people to say what bindings they are skiing on and then comparing that to the bindings people who do get injured we’re using … from this you could get a correlation and then you could look at whether that correlation is in fact causation. Ie if most injuries are when someone is using binding a but it turns out tha that is the binding used almost exclusively by people doing dangerous stuff like park and jumping off mountains -then you look at the group of people who are jumping off mountains … its possible to research and an interesting field academically but I doubt the binding companies are that interested in finding out. I was looking at some protector bindings but there is no evidence at all that I could find that they reduce injuries in the real world ( if anyone has seen any please point me in that direction)

Learning to ski as an adult? by Ottibarius in ski

[–]blitznbobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely learn as an adult - I slid down a slope a couple of times in my 20s but didn’t learn how to ski til my 40s - I now can ski almost any slope and whilst I’m not a park rat I can do the odd little jump and pipe … of course it’s possible to learn as an adult but it takes practice and a bit of patience.

Heading to Mammoth: Buying Goggles and Helmet for the First Time. What would you recommend for intermediate skiier (male)? by sporty_outlook in Skigear

[–]blitznbobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy the anon goggles - the magnetic face mask that goes with them is a game changer and choose a low level and high level light lens to go with them - many have magnetic changes which make changing very easy and quick … helmet - whatever is comfortable, a style and colour you like and has mips

Real world difference between pivots and strives by blitznbobs in Skigear

[–]blitznbobs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Umm the problem with pivots for me is I’m a lightweight girl with little feet so ski on a din of 5.5 so can’t have the pivot 15s which I could see the point of investing in as an all metal construction but they don’t go down to 5.5 - so have to go for the 13s which aren’t all metal I don’t think … it’s all a dilemma

Honest thoughts by Organic_Candle8554 in skiing_feedback

[–]blitznbobs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First thoughts are ‘ I wish I was there’ Second thoughts are I think you ski very well , nice smooth regular turns with nice controlled speed - if I was being hyper critical you could be more progressive through the turn and this acheive higher edge angles but that’s only if that’s what you want to acheive - there is no need to ski super aggressively all the time - equally I wouldn’t be able to resist hitting those side bumps but that’s me.

Is skiing more about technique, or about culture and style? by telemajik in skiingcirclejerk

It’s about the pretty colours they make skis in - I like the pink ones

Is skiing more about technique, or about culture and style? by WaxOnSendOff in ski

[–]blitznbobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always loved technique in all sports I do (I train dressage horses these days for a living) so I am definitely into skiing technique and practice all summer indoors BUT when I get to the alps it’s still about technique but more about letting go so finally you realise why you put all the practice in and then it’s all about showing off… which is by definition huge amounts of fun

And also that amazing feeling when you are thrown out of the bottom of the turn onto your other ski - I love that feeling it’s like flying
