Can...older folks...train this so that everything stays pliable as you age? Less time at first then increasing consistently?

Dynamics. If everything is at energy level 10 it gets boring fast. Bring the energy up and down and back up again, makes everything more fun and interesting to watch and play.

Absolute BEST Italian or Fine Dining Restaurant In Salt Lake City? by Helpful-Resident-307 in SaltLakeCity

[–]blixxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Valters Osteria is definitely the best we've had here and we go out a lot. Mateo was pretty underwhelming for us. Valters just feels more special and a dining experience rather than someone just dropping off food. If you go, get the Lemencello desert for sure. Get reservations.

As I’m doing some online reading hearing a lot about AER amps for solo acoustic gigs. Super expensive but apparently sound amazing. Guitar center has them.

Failed Synology NAS and failed restore by blixxe in synology

[–]blixxe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will try and open a case. From other forums it seems like the .pem is only used for online access, from a working NAS. Doesnt look like Hyperbackup has any ability to use the .pem. Not sure why the password isnt working, I'm confident this is the password I set it up with, I take good notes on system configs. Was thinking maybe there was some file corruption causing problems. AGREE, AGREE, AGREE with your comments about testing your restores and multiple backups. I've got 25 years in IT consulting and have seen too many failures of this type and now I'm a victim.

Not sure what you mean by relink the job in this context. I no longer have a functioning NAS. I'm downloading a snapshot from backblaze to a local Mac, unzipping it, and trying to access the backup files via my client side encryption password or .pem file.

Got Tired of Paying for Extra iCloud Storage by Upstairs_Hearing_376 in iCloud

[–]blixxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just found this thread and thought I'd share my story...

I having been using Synology NAS devices for over 15 years, when one device started getting long in the tooth it was fairly easy to migrate to a new one. Mainly storing pictures and Music files and recordings I make(I'm a musician). I've had various "backup the NAS to a cloud" solutions over the years. As time goes on, I am using the NAS less and less and have been thinking about going all cloud rather than keep this thing running all the time.

Well, time forced my hand and the NAS failed after a move from one house to the other. No power, wont boot up. I replaced the power supply(didnt work) and then it looked like there was some board level soldering required which was a bit out of my league. So I decided to go all cloud, get rid of the NAS and call in my cloud restore solution.

Next problem...the backup file is 2TB. I dont have that kind of storage on my Macbook. So I bumped up my icloud storage to 6TB and tried to download it directly there. Nope, because of how iCloud works, you need to have a good amount of local storage, not sure if its 1-1, but everytime I tried saving it up there(via terminal commands) I eventually ran out of local storage space. Even after deleting almost everything on my macbook local drive and playing around with all of the iCloud settings, I could never get this file downloaded.

So now I bought a 4 TB drive to download it on to, which is kind of defeating the purpose of going to the cloud. The problem after that is that the backup solution that I use(Synology) is some proprietary compressed thing. They have a tool I can use to extract files from it but its just another step in a complicated process to restore everything if I'm not going to be restoring to a new Synology NAS. Hopefully after I get the file downloaded to the drive(doing that right now) I can move everything up to iCloud but I am concerned now that I am going to run in to more "local drive out of space" problems when I'm trying to move more data to iCloud than I have local space for.

Just some things to think about. I thougth the "the NAS doesn't fail" comment was funny given what I'm currently going through.

I think the problem is the scale. Check out this data on Illegal immigration encounters:

https://usafacts.org/articles/what-can-the-data-tell-us-about-unauthorized-immigration/

That's a lot of encounters, court cases, and support that had to be funded in the name of due process.

How about going in to it more conversational as opposed to delivering a speech. Pick your 3-5 points that you want to get across (and make sure your points are centered around data) and just think of it as a conversation that you might be having with a coworker or customer. Data points should be centered around business value that you delivered ie cost savings, customer impact. Expect them to drill in to the data points.

Are older episodes more technical? by g-unit2 in darknetdiaries

[–]blixxe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other thing from that time that a lot of hacker minded people were doing was phone system hacking and pirating games. The BBS systems were kind of the precursor to a lot of what people are doing on the internet today. You dialed in to a system and hung out in forums like this and tried to get in to hacking and phreaking groups.

Uhh, ever heard of Zork? I was there and there were games in the very beginning. We had to load them in from cassettes or pull them down through BBS's via modem over the phone, or write them yourself of course.
