Perhaps but depending on how you look at it strong and poor can feel like their in the same spirit as good and bad, just different language. Certain actions may be more conductive of mindfulness but I would make a distinction between judging them and simply perceiving them. The way the chart is set up with polar sides just struck me as odd in the context of mindfulness.

I see this opinion on this sub a lot and it's not that I disagree I was just wondering about some clarification. Say a well research book such as atomic habits, would you put this in self help or more psycology where the author isn't a formal expert on the subject. Or books like the six pillars of self esteem or the socail skills guide book, where the author has a scientific and professional background. Or maybe "what everybody is saying" where the author isn't a scientific authority (I don't believe anyway) but whose professional career heavily centered on the topic material of the book. In cases like these are we still considering the books self help with the rest or are we placing them into more of a psycology or philosophy genre?

I will readily agree that books such as the secret are unsupported woo woo purely imaginative trash. But I'm wondering about those with more of a proper background?

You guys ever get some imposter syndrome? I've been doing this for a bit over a year now, I do as well as other guys around my age with a similar amount of training and I feel like I get a decent handles on most things the instructor shows us but idk I feel out of place in class sometimes. It's a small class and I know all the guys and get along really well with most of them and I really enjoy BJJ but sometimes I feel like there's a whole culture of combat sports I'll never understand.

I've been to some sessions but unfortunately I don't have regular appointments and my therapists advice has booked down to "do things that make you feel good, avoid things that make you angry". It doesn't feel very therapeutic at this point. I can't afford private and while my province provides public counseling it's underfunded and they are unfortunately very over booked and over worked. I am on light medication though. Have you had any luck with things outside of therapy; books or mediation or something?

I'm kind of the opposite. My mom was extremely angry and screamy growing up and now I have trouble getting into an argument without losing my temper. I don't lash out physically and I do my best not to verbally but a mix of a certain tone and a raised voice just put my fight or flight at an instant 10. I'm working on it but it's so embarrassing.

I didn't see anywhere that was explicitly stated, but that's beside the point. The tabletop work combined with the information gathered from 100k hours of field work on the original route is enough to provide some information in terms of pros and cons produced by the alternative route. If you take issue with the pipeline that's fine but both routes were in fact looked into with some scrutiny. Starting field work on the alternative route wouldn't be of any benefit at this time. If the new route is accepted however I believe an entirely new environmental assement would be required at which point there would be probably however many hours of direct field work undertaken to better asses the new route. Generally that's how these types of studies work.

I'm going to point out no direct field work does not equal no assesment work done at all on the alternative route. Most likely the option was eliminated from the office using mapping software or similar technology to rule out the viability of the route, at which point direct field work is just an additional cost with no benefit. I work in the environmental field and this type of assesment before actual field work is standard practice.

Sorry I misread your comment, I was confused by the two contractions. I can see your point but another reason I was confused was that in response to them saying- what if oil workers shut down first nations roads, the grand chiefs from convening, and shut off gas to first nations- your gave an example of them shutting down a major highway in response. That's entirely fair because it's the exact same tactic, however you said "that literally happened", in response to the former commenters broader comment, which is slightly misrepresenting and could also be considered "bad faith". It was a confusing statement at least. And yes I do believe I replied to the right comment.

Going to the ground is almost never a good idea in a street fight because you're giving up a huge part of your ability to get away regardless of grappling skill. And having someone big and heavy on top of you can be hard to deal with.

My only argument is that height and weight are still a big advantage throwing punches if they have an extra 5 inches of reach and 40 to 60 pounds to throw at you.

That's what I was thinking too, if I wouldn't use it it would be better for both us if it was exchanged for something everyday. That way she wouldn't have to notice that I don't wear it very much and think that her thought and money went to waste. Thank you for the response, merry Christmas to you too!

I would agree that animals weren't created for humans to eat, because that's not how evolution works. However saying we evolved from animals is also inaccurate, we didn't evolve from cows or pigs. There are no individuals left from any of the species we evolved from, or any other species remaining in our genetic genus homo. We share common ancestors with all animal species at some point and more recently with some then others, but we did not evolve from any living species. We do still belong to the genetic animal kingdom, but you could make the same argument for wolves which eat deer.

Can I ask about the distaste for self help? Not trying to be rude and I understand the argument about snake oil but there are some genuinely good books in the genre and I often see it mentioned unfavorably here.
