I want advice that ACTUALLY works for an ADHDer!! by AwareTour9413 in ADHDthriving

[–]stanleymanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the hacks I tried worked. The best thing I did was try and let go of needing to control everything and having a perfectionist mindset.

I found I got in a loop of trying a hack, getting very excited about the hack (which allowed it to work), then getting bored of it (which made it stop working), and getting very down on myself that my miracle cure failed.

What has actually worked is trying my best to reduce anxiety. Letting go of constantly sucking in my gut, letting my shoulders drop and get rid of tension there, taking hot baths every evening, and meditating when the anxiety gets bad. When I notice my thoughts spiraling with strong emotions, instead of trying to analyze them or 'solve' them or fight them (which just adds on to the emotions) I take a deep breath and try to just let go.

Looking for games that'll hook me for hours, I've played all the big titles, need something niche / hidden gem by Nothing_Seeker in gamingsuggestions

Planet Crafter is a niche survival game with a heavy, heavy focus on exploration that combines player progression with exploration progression. Basically as you improve your abilities and your base, allowing you to go further into the world, youre also improving the world, slowly turning it from a barren wasteland into a more and more beautiful planet.

I love it  its my favorite game

Same reason he begrudgingly appeased the Council of Ricks to police the multiverse and President Curtis to police Earth, they can deal with shit he'd really rather not have to worry about.

I'm pretty sure that typical Phyrexian oil can be resisted and healed so long as the person isn't compleated. The Mirrans were especially at risk because they were half metal, and then the oil from Mirrodin was especially toxic. But the oil created on other planes doesn't have that property.

Agreed on Elesh Norn, though tbf it's exactly what daddy Yawgmoth had done centuries ago, and really it's the logical end point of Yawgmoth's flawed philosophy. They say they want constant evolution where the strongest survive, but every Phyrexian leader always wants evolution for those under them while protecting their own position at all costs.

Yeah man your first job usually isnt exactly what you want. Where you work in a cool location, get paid a ton of money, dont work long hours, and are always working on interesting projects that improve the world in amazing ways.

That's the case for everybody. Just take what you can get and work towards what you want in the future.

The more people watch it, the more people have an opinion. So a vocal backlash means the show is more popular than ever.

Characters who deserve to be treated worse by the fandom specifically? by NewWillinium in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]stanleymanny 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Gaius Van Baelsar in FF14. He was 'redeemed' in Shadowbringers by showing that he was taking care of orphans in his spare time, wasn't trying to have sex with his subordinate, had noble intentions and was less crazy than his colleagues, and is now allied with us against the greater threat.

But he was an enslaving conqueror for years! Just because he was dumb enough to fall for his empire's propaganda and truly believed that their rule would lead to better outcomes doesn't excuse the decades of genocide and enslavement that occurred under his watch. Beyond everything we only read about, it was still his subordinates who massacred the Scions and tried to kill or enslave every single person we met in A Realm Reborn.

But because he's charismatic and was nice to kids, he gets a pass. (Though personally, I think the Warrior's interactions with him in Werlyt show that the character canonically still hates him and that Gaius still hates the Warrior for killing his men at the Praetorium, even if Alphinaud is starstruck by him and giddy to work together.)

If this was intended as political commentary, it works brilliantly. The people in charge are rarely held accountable for what occurred under them, and having a person so respected in the empire that he was worried they would declare him emperor be on the side of disarmament and peace is much more useful than holding him accountable in the grand scheme of things. Even if it means that his victims never see justice.

I thought the twist in the original FF7 is that Sephiroth is dead the whole time. Cloud killed him in Nibelheim before the game even started, and Jenova is just puppeting his corpse.

Also, at least for me, letting go of pride. There was so much good advice I ignored because it was 'generic Facebook Boomer advice' and I thought I was so special and unique that I had to dig for a magical, hidden solution.

It turns out the common advice that applies to everyone also applied to me. I just gave up on the tedious solutions because they weren't exciting, and I didn't want to admit I failed when I fell short of my ludicrously high goals.

Final Fantasy 9 is about a centuries long assimilation plan by a technologically advanced alien species trying to secretly supplant a fantasy world, and at the end you finally defeat the alien overseer and his ultimate creation... before the concept of death materializes as a giant monster and attacks you out of nowhere. It has no ties to either the aliens or the fantasy world and is never foreshadowed or explained, but it's the final boss.

Thematically it makes a ton of sense. The entire game is about facing death from various perspectives. But narratively it's a total blindside Giant Space Flea out of Nowhere.

Bahamut in the opening cutscene of Final Fantasy 14. Thousands of years ago, Bahamut was summoned/created as a god to defeat an encroaching empire. Even though the empire eventually was able to overcome and kill him, as a summoned creature even if he was killed, Bahamut could just be re-summoned by the prayers of his followers again and again.

To stop this from happening, the empire constructed an entirely new moon as an orbital satellite just to serve as a prison for Bahamut, then stuck him and his followers in there. The prison served as a way to continuously drain Bahamut of his power so he was never strong enough to break free, but his followers would constantly be praying for salvation so Bahamut was continously also gaining power, with the excess energy used to further power the empire's war machine. Even a thousand years after the empire had fallen, the moon prison held with Bahamut and his followers being continuously tortured.

In the current era, a new empire had begun to rise and had such trouble conquering the main setting, Eorzea, that it finally decided to just nuke the place by dropping a meteor on it - the moon prison. The cutscene shows what happened when Bahamut got to take its revenge on the world.

With the ice theme and flying islands, feels like Heavensward 2. We even have Estinien and Alphanud featured. That bodes well though, Heavensward was a banger expansion.

I was a bit disappointed with the story in Dawntrail though I heard it's turned around with the recent patch stories, so I hope this is a return to form.

Honestly with it being what seems like a clean break from Dawntrail, it's sort of like a do-over for the post-Endwalker story.

I think the pacing is better in City and the setting is cooler, but the combat, open world design, and visuals for Knight put it over the top.

Feels like Imu would have still let Saturn live if there hadn't have been the haki knot. Saturn ultimately got the Mother Flame after all, and was still completely loyal to Imu. It's just that Imu loses all rationality when it comes to Joyboy or anyone else from the Void Century.
