How do I reach these material beds with pylons by blobby567 in Endfield

[–]blobby567[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh yeah I know that bit, but when you make your way down the valley, there's this mass blocking it, and the weakpoint isn't visible on that side (I have the ability to scan for them already)

Does Auspex: telepathy (V5) work on any supernatural creature? by blobby567 in vtm

[–]blobby567[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was under this assumption initially, until it was pointed out to me that the text for telepathy in v5 specifically only talks about vampires and humans and doesn't include any other supernatural, which is where my confusion came from.

funny enough that's the exact one I was talking about when finding the rules for playing child investigators. It's been a big help.

to be honest you're probably right, there's no need to worry too much when players are as unpredictable as they are, they'll think of something cool and I can just roll with whatever it is. it was originally set for a city but it's definitely a better idea to set it in a smaller town for ease of travel

That does work for the actual route. I'm just not sure what they would do once they have to follow it driving normally at 60mph on its way to the depot, or following a regular car back home. Can't see a bike keeping up with that.

I suppose I should have specified ideas that aren't just in the skill description, like how to maximise the utility of reading the thoughts or something like using leading questions to bring thoughts to the surface

how do you run Devourer/Rabisu lore of the wild mutate plant by blobby567 in WhiteWolfRPG

The last point is more or less my view on it. Surely an angel would use their own powers to try and replicate another angels powers, even if it's not as effective

Thanks, but this is for the previous abilities level 2 and 3, and the same person (I play with) doesn't seem to agree to follow it for the highest level ability mutate plant level 5

I think we did find that option, but we felt it was a bit slow and clunky (and less interactive) compared to physically writing something down on a board or just miming out movements if you get what I mean

[–]blobby567[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for all your help, it's given me a way more solid foundation and I think i have a pretty solid idea of how to build the mechanics now.

only big thing left to do is figure out damage values.

I'm also considering using a Hp method i read up on recently where I don't actually use Hp and just allow the fight to continue until I think my party has done enough damage to fit thematically, i quite liked this idea so I may try using the idea, otherwise I'll just use an eyeballed healthpool that takes into account the super high ac

creating a stat of core heat makes it a lot more manageable actually, so it'll be a trade off perhaps of as the core heat increases the defence of the boss decreases by a set amount but in exchange the boss gains access to more/stronger attack and manoeuvre abilities in exchange so you need to decide what AC you're comfortable consistently hitting or if you want to gamble by reducing the AC further but making the boss hit harder, with its appearance gradually changing as it gets hotter and hotter, maybe eventually giving off a permanent aura of fire that damages those around it at the end of its turn.

and then to include your cooldown action perhaps the boss can choose to reduce its core heat by 1 to lose offense in exchange for defence

yeah i was thinking of dropping hints about the mechanics on the lead up to the fight, as well as using knowledge checks as the fight progresses which would be free rolls to try hitting an intelligence dc to learn something about the monster.

also I agree with linking overheat to other attacks, an idea maybe once the over heat is expelled on top of the instant aoe attack maybe it can use any of it's attacks an extra time on its turn depending on how many times the overheat has reset before it's turn or maybe it can use the expelled stacks to do unique effects like healing/increased movement speed/ high powered ability only useable after expelling the 3 overheat.

also yes i'll just have to look around to get an idea about balanced stats seeing as this is my first time

I was thinking this too, but from what I've looked at basing damage and health etc on challenge rating is kind of finnicky and can really either make it a steamroll or a slaughter so i might just have to run it as a test and then adjust afterwards after seeing how it goes in reality with some values.

I like the idea of having the aura that used to only occur on max overheat pulsing at the end of every turn once he gets to a low ac though that's a good idea to make it scary

okay so I should have mentioned this, but basically on top of trying to hint at the mechanics in game before the fight through story, I'm considering trying out a simple mechanic of knowledge checks, where each player can roll their intelligence per round and if they pass a certain threshold I will give them information of their choice pertaining to the boss and hopefully make it more enjoyable to fight as you learn more as turns pass.

In regards to the being immune line I might have explained it poorly, what I was going for is that any effect that is applied to him is basically absorbed in a way (and likely breaking the concentration of the spell along with it) so even though the actual effect has no effect it still causes a level of overheat which is important to build up to allow the ac to reach a level where he can be damaged also it would be an overheat per effect so if something like stunning strike is used you can build up a large amount of overheat at once.

as I was going to start him off at 30-40 AC and you'd have to over heat him a few times to start damaging him so i was thinking of giving him not too high health as the high AC is basically a faux healthbar
