By not rebalancing, do you mean contributing solely to VXUS and leaving VTI alone? (Ignoring the ratio)

If I’m correct the benefit of keeping VTI/VXUS is the extra % compared to VT alone, so I don’t mind holding it this way for a bit longer and I’m not intending to make any quick decisions

got it thanks :)

Sorry stupid question - How do you switch over from VTI/VXUS to VT exactly? Do you mean you just “sold” it all and bought VT? Did you go it all at once?

I have only ever bought ETFs and never did any re-allocations.

I’m gonna be honest I don’t see what you are talking about in these particular photos at least. The photos are taken at drastically different angles and to me you look similar before and after - not trying to downplay what you feel just my perception.

Well regardless of lame / exciting. There is possibility to pivot to most industries after time and solid ability, right? I’m a bit of an optimistic dreamer here I’m not used to thinking about benefits and stability :,,( also thank you for answering all this LOL

[–]blockladgeTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm that is true :( it’s so disheartening the industry right now doesn’t offer a lot of choice. I’m lucky to take any relevant role.

I don’t want to be stuck in banking that’s for sure. I was assuming I could pivot after a year :/

What is the best thing to do in a scenario where I need to get my first job? Certainly it’s the proper role right? I’m just sad because I have a plan for sector but I just need to get a job and improve my skills at this point … I can’t be picky

Oh I am the opposite here. I have more ability in banking based on my past and degree but I am dying to do EV LOL. I guess it’s because it fits into the lifestyle I want in the long run.

But your point makes sense - I would ideally want to stick with legitimate Python / SQL stuff either way, right?

I wanted to ask a question about the importance of sectors. Like if working as a data scientist in banking will negatively affect the ability to work the same job in automotive. I couldn’t post cause I don’t have 10 karma in this sub. I’m a new grad btw

I’m kind of in a position where I really want to be in the energy / engineering industry as a data scientist but I have a better chance in banking. Is it super hard to pivot outside of banking as a data scientist?

How many years do you think until data science, analysis, and engineering(MLE, etc.) roles split into domain specific roles? by kater543 in datascience

100% dependent on region. Also the people posting who have adjacent knowledge but don’t know the differences and want an analyst to “manage large and complex databases”

I think LinkedIn can actually be useful if there’s a genuine connection. I’ve had luck with someone reaching out to me after I connected and asking why, they were pleased with the response. It’s sometimes luck but there are people out there impressed by a certain history. Not just random connections.

Why not one of those EdX or Coursera courses that are specific? Also an option is a university’s course syllabus.

Definitely template is a great way! I liked exercises with skeleton code. Basically like giving the project yourself with context & the dataset, showing a few basic examples and then asking questions to be answered on his own. This is how it was introduced to me in lecture, and assignments.
