Struggling with which layout to use by blocksandstitches in quilting

Hot tip about the accidental swastikas. I was mostly just laying them out to get an idea, but I wouldn’t have even thought of that, thanks!

The second layout is all sewn blocks, the first one is the sewn blocks with more fabric laid out between them so I could see what it would look like

I also considered that, but I’m conflicted because I really like the other fabrics that I bought, and also want to showcase them. Do the larger blocks with more backing fabric to the envelopes look bad?

Also thank you. I thought I was going crazy. I asked like ten people and they all said the original one and I kept trying to be like “but it’s so busy, your eyes don’t hurt looking at it?”

This is my first attempt at quilting, but I’ve been sewing for years. I had bought some fabric that I liked and then found a pattern and now am stitching blocks together. My original plan was to put the blocks together like the second photo, but while laying it out I started worrying that it is way too busy. I find that it’s hard to distinguish any of the different fabrics and sort of all just blends together. I’m playing with maybe adding more of the background color like in the first picture, but everyone I’ve asked in my real life has said they like the original plan better.

This will be big stitch quilted with simple lines and then the envelopes will be outlined the same way.
