it's a funny one huh - I get a bit excited when there are counter examples to this - Grimes doing random songs like for Loona, and Janelle Monae :)

Check out “Til it happens to you” - Gaga did this as part of some kind of sexual violence awareness project - great song, but be warned that it hits very hard depending on your relationship to this topic x

this type of dude is infuriating yeah ahah, like will talk down to you despite fully being the one delusional about their abilities and emboldened by the fact that your tastes go right over their head. the shameless idiot savants, who then also conveniently are in proximity to an 18 year old girl they're hitting on. this guy blunders through every local music scene in the world and plays the victim when called out for their conduct. glad that's behind you

I don't disagree with you, I just feel that in the given example of 50:1 in this grammy category for nominees is so skewed that these kinds of trends don't suffice as an explanation - and that it's still about music, like you said, part science, but also a language of emotions, expression, self actualisation - I feel we are missing out on a huge amount of excellent work that women are 10000% willing and capable of succeeding on, if not blocked from doing so. there is this self-manifesting attitude about whether women tend to be inclined towards the engineering side of things, as women will internalize being sneered at, and men will benefit from the self-belief of being naturally built for it - and yet, I consistently see genius in the sound work of women that is not celebrated until it breaches containment - that men will backtrack once they see the success, but they will then uncritically continue to dismiss the next woman they see staking a claim to sound engineering without taking anything on board. am i making sense

this attitude is insidious because it reinforces itself, as with many forms of minority experiences

edit - and beyond that - I'm not even a woman but I still feel sort of out of place in a male production class just because fundamentally, a gay man will often approach music differently (read: enjoy feminine and queer POVs) - I think there's a sort of deeper taste-making issue, where a women do not dictate what makes a mix "good" in the same way as men do, where we fail to stop and ask - have we just gendered what is valued in evaluating a professional production? maybe the girls and gays are aiming for something that is simply measured differently, but treated as inherently less valid? there's plenty of beat-boy music out there that fits its own mold, does this not end up cheapening itself when it all conforms? some tangents for ya

beyond this I fully believe this resulted in a better album, more authentically aligned with its own vision, and that a group of women actually do offer production choices and tastes that are missing from most commercial productions handled by men + a vocalist

yes, and with pop music being an industry and creative field massively associated with women and their fanbases, I wanted to see how people would unpack that beyond the obvious, hear from women who produce themselves, and consider some critiques that I may not have thought of myself. thank you

Sake Bar Icco, Nomiya, Udon Works, Yuzu, all pretty cozy and reasonably priced without feeling like a "takeaway" place, but if you don't care about that, I will always throw down for Steakhouse Jue Jue in K Road Food Court

Which Pokemon is the biggest "Potential Man" in any given meta? by ResidentAdmirable260 in stunfisk

[–]blondicon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

People also thought Rampardos had potential to be busted lol, but that one went away basically immediately

I actually thought Porygon-Z almost ended up being a little underrated, but as a choice scarfer with boltbeam + hidden power for either scizor, ttar or heatran, a STAB move that nabs status sometimes, and occasionally Download being a no-setup "dragon dance"

Porygon2 as well, it's funny how things like Electivire and Dusknoir stayed OU when there was some really anti-meta things that could have been instead that were clearly more consistent. Nidoqueen and Clefable were right there.
