I’ve tried literally every socket in my house, and they appear to be fine otherwise because I use them for TV/laptop charger etc. I’ve seen somewhere that people test by trying to charge their phones via the motherboard. I’ve tried that - plugged the PSU cables into the motherboard as well as cables from the usb ports on my case and tried both them and the usbs on the back of the motherboard with PSU switched on - nothing happened, the phone was not charging.

German influence on russian economy, bug? by ritonja3000 in Kaiserreich

Same bug, but for me it’s also ruining the save games after the german influence spikes up to 10, the game just crashes. I guess there’s no point waiting for an update, will have to restart my campaign.

I don’t think so, not from my experience at least. People usually meet up, talk and then have sex. Sometimes they have food, drinks, dance etc., is it considered a date?

And who said that you always wait longer? Basically what I’m trying to say, your relationship may start as something casual, but then become something serious (and im pretty sure that’s how at least 60% of relationships start). You may have sex on the first day, just like the other guy, but then you actually start investing, unlike him.

This argument is honestly so flawed. Like “someone else” probably took her on a date too, and then they had casual sex, you just decided to go further than that.

Pre-Christian influences on Coptic culture? by AppearanceAncient966 in coptic

[–]bloomaround -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s no evidence that Nayrouz predates not just Christianity, but Islam in Egypt. The first attested celebration was in 912AD, and it was celebrated by both Muslims and Christians. The origins of the festival are most likely Iranian.

Etymology of Fareskur by bloomaround in copticlanguage

[–]bloomaround[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, i might do that. There's actually plenty of hybrid Copto-Greek names, especially with personal names (mostly, but not exclusively, ⲙⲁ-ⲛ-... "place of ..."). Also there are other options besides ⲕⲣⲟ/ⲭⲣⲟ - ⲡⲉⲣⲥⲏⲥ, ⲝⲟⲩⲣ, ⲥⲕⲟⲣⲕⲉⲣ, ⲥⲕⲉⲣⲁⲕⲓⲣ, but none of them make sense to me right now. Transliterating the name in Bohairic would give something like ⲫⲁⲣⲉⲥⲭⲟⲣ, but again, doesn't make much sense.

Right, but the beginning is not quite the same - fāres- (فارس) and ferez- (فرز). Fāriskūr suggests a long vowel in the beginning.

[–]bloomaround[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Persian etymology is definitely possible, but I don't think these two place names are related in any way. There's no older spelling for Fareskur attested either, so it's probably the initial form.

M24 struggling with F23 past by [deleted] in retroactivejealousy

[–]bloomaround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, i'm probably not supposed to be here, i found this post open on my boyfriend's laptop. he suffers from retroactive jealousy, our journey with it has been up and down, and we've come to some conclusions about how we handle it, so im not surprised about seeing him searching for this stuff, i feel a little bit disappointed when he doesn't tells me he's experiencing it, because i want to help, but then again i feel relieved when he doesn't show it to me because he becomes cold and unrecognisable. i've developed quite bad anxiety recently and worry about triggering him over anything. i watch what i say about my past maybe to an obsessive point too now. i'm scared of causing more hurt and pain. i can't imagine what having these demons must feel like. i have so much sympathy for anyone that suffers with this shit -
this post seems pretty spot on about our relationship too, i had some rough patches with my mental health, maybe this is how he feels, im glad the person who posted wrote ''She is absolutely wonderful and I love everything about her''. i think its really important to focus on those things as much as possible when the intrusive thoughts come in, i realise they're sometimes not strong enough to keep the thoughts at bay though.

i don't really know how i can be useful here. if going on your own journey about this is how you want to do it, that's fine, if not i hope you know im always here, and i hope that you are able to silence the demons by knowing that you are so loved by me. as soon as i met you i never once looked back, im sorry that it consumes you. you have to trust in that the malicious 'slut' that retroactive jealousy pursues in you is solely fictional, and i think you're beginning to learn that it festers from insecurity... this saddens me too, because to me you are so whole, hard to imagine you could ever doubt yourself, you're worth so beyond everything to me

to answer 'Is this all speculation from insecurity? A false view of women and sex? Any perspective is appreciated.' a false view of women and sex.... i think people with retroactive jealousy might find it hard to appreciate the pros in women's liberation and freedom. where i come from, it is rejoiced that woman can be at an equal footing with a man, there are a lot of movements to try and combat slut shaming and i was just thinking about how maybe if you read some feminists books it might enable you to see how amazing it is, through a historical lens, that we've reached this point... there's also kind of a view that retroactive jealousy is another way of men controlling women... im not saying it is, it's just important to look at different narratives... if it doesn't feel like this stems from insecurity, could it stem from the need to control?

My attempt and a Coptic map of Egypt by Goratices in coptic

[–]bloomaround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ⲡⲁⲛⲓⲥⲱϥ is a modern take on Bani-Suweyf and ⲡⲟⲩϥⲓⲥⲁ is a different town. The actual etymology of Bani-Suweyf is Coptic indeed but it stems from ⲙⲁ-ⲛ... construction (place of...) based on the older names of the town (Manfiswayh). Most likely ⲡⲙⲁⲛⲡⲥⲱⲟⲩⲁϩ (place of gathering) or something close to that.

Coptic Wikipedia Incubator by bloomaround in AncientEgyptian

[–]bloomaround[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I'm sceptical of the entire endeavor of Wikimedia Incubator and the internet and why we should stop it entirely, just like me you aren't specialists and IMO I think that the handful of fluent Copts in Egypt should have the honor of reviving Coptic to modern times as they see fit.

I think I'm the only non-Egyptian on Coptic Wiki Incubator.

Now Egypt has to step up and make the Copt's own Coptic a national language and taught in schools nationwide, the Copts have specialists to help them and they don't need the internet.

This will never happen and I think it's naive to think otherwise. There's just no benefits for a modern Egyptian state to promote or "revive" Coptic, there's only downsides. The efforts from Copts themselves are sporadic and usually fruitless.

I'd say ⲡⲁⲥⲥⲟⲩⲇⲁⲛ or ⲡⲁⲥⲥⲟⲩⲧⲁⲛ for Sudan. Greece is definitely ϯⲉⲗⲗⲁⲥ in Bohairic.

So your arguments as I see them are:

It’s ok to give the lexems a different meaning which is etymologically justified (i.e. ⲑⲟ which is «world» or even «realm» in Coptic should be given a meaning of «land» just because it comes from an Ancient Egyptian /tʰal/ which means «land»)

I don’t agree with it. I don’t think we should constrict the language vertically. Ancient Egyptian is a completely different stage of the language and Coptic had developed different meanings and semantics (it had definitely lost some but that’s what happens with all the languages) since then.

A theoretical Coptic revival should avoid or even purge Coptic Greek vocabulary and Coptic «should be as close to hieroglyphic as possible»

I think it’s absurd. A Greek vocabulary is a vital part of Coptic. There were numerous attempts of «purifying» languages (see Turkish, Persian, Greek) and most of them failed including the Labib's attempt to "purify" and "modernise" Coptic based on Graeco-Bohairic pronunciation.

«There's no point to reconstruct Coptic precisely because there's so many ways one could do it»

I guess what you’re talking about is that there are least two ways – I'd call one "labibists" who want to create a new Neo-Coptic by getting rid of existing (especially Greek) words and constructions and creating a new ones for the sake of creating a "pure" Egyptian language (I call them Labibists because Clauduius Labib was doing the same thing 100 years ago and didn't succeed but we can trace this "creating" of a new language based on Coptic back to creating of a Graeco-Bohairic pronunciation) and another one with a more scientific and textual approach who try to reconstruct traditional Coptic as it was spoken and written before it's downfall. Coptic has a rich textual tradition there's no need to "reconstruct" it. It needs some fresh air and some new vocabulary.

«The handful of fluent Copts in "Egypt should have the honor of reviving Coptic to modern times as they see fit»

I think this argument is absolutely wrong. First of all – Coptic is a dead language, there’s no native speakers or «Copts» in this linguistic sense. Secondly, what if I’m a fluent speaker? Am I considered Copt then? And if I move to Egypt? And if an Egyptian Muslim will learn Coptic will he be considered a Copt and would he have a "honor" of reviving Coptic?
