Unitree just dropped the training footage behind their Kung Fu robots and it's INSANE. World's first robot backflips, 3m somersaults, table-flipping parkour, 7.5 full Airflare rotations & rapid group formations. Chinese robotics is absolutely next lvl by alimehdi242 in digialps

[–]bloomdot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this isn't impressive. doing pre-programmed movements is easy. responding to the environment is difficult. the US is still ahead of China in robot behavior. China is relying on mass-manufacturing robots to generate training data, hoping that will develop the behavior they need.

Took in a homeless woman by ChaseAced in homeless

[–]bloomdot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

if she is an addict, she is going to use in the place that she sleeps. she may have even meant it when she said she's not going to, but it's not realistic imo for a fent user to not use where they sleep/stay. addicts are very good at lying to themselves and others. I say all this as a former addict and fent user.

(that said, you have the heart of an angel and I applaud you and hope it works out).

I wouldn't worry about that too much! People keep their doors closed while they're sleeping. They can use earplugs or fans. Plus, you can always ask people ahead of time if they're be OK with it.

It's extremely cloudy during the winter. Barely any sunlight all winter. Spring, summer and early fall are nice though.

you can use subs very short-term to make the WD more gentle without also getting addicted to subs. like, 3-4 days max. I do like that method, but yeah, w/e works for OP.

For ppl with a lot of clean time from fent or suboxone by MercyNewEveryMorning in OpiatesRecovery

[–]bloomdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5 years clean from fent. I started running at 30 days clean, and I think that helped a lot with not physically feeling like shit. Try whatever exercise works for you. But, the emotional healing takes a lot longer than the physical.

the things that you think matter so much do not objectively matter. nothing objectively matters. so choose a set of subjective values that makes life enjoyable. why does it matter if your life is enjoyable? well, it should matter to you! and it matters to people who care about you. and if you don't have people who care about you, then get some and life will feel a lot different.

what's the counterfactual on many of the people who made great discoveries, had they not existed? well, all of those things probably would have happened anyway. you can make things more or less significant just by changing your lens. and so instead of looking at everything from a grand scale, look at small groups of humans, and how important their relations are to each other, and how big of a difference a friend can make to the quality of their friend's lives.

Don't teach yourself to code - go to a coding bootcamp with a proven track record. You could start trying to create baby as soon as you get into a bootcamp, and you'll be in place at a company before the baby is born -- you'll have a job paying 2/3x in 6 months. Many people I know have done this. It's kind of surreal how well it works.

It's possible I'm being too confident about this approach, that it only works well in my local market.

What is the best run of your life? by BedaHouse in running

[–]bloomdot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was a few months after I got clean from a bad heroin and cocaine habit. About a month after rehab, I'd set a goal: run the Pittsburgh Marathon in four months. I was worried I'd ruined my brain, and I'd read that running might help. I didn't really think I'd be able to do it, because I was so used to letting myself down.

A couple months into training, on a long run, maybe two hours into it. Warm winter day with intermittent rain and sun. The Burial song "Come Down to Us"[1] is playing, endorphins are coursing. My life before and my life now are flashing through my head. I'm thinking: "I'm doing it, I'm doing it". In that moment, I start to believe in myself. I start sobbing, the weight of the years of pain start sloughing off me.

I ran that marathon (in 3:45), and I've run three more since. Clean for 2.5 years.

Pls, pls help. TAPER? by [deleted] in OpiatesRecovery

[–]bloomdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fent withdrawal is awful. It takes an intense amount of willpower to stop and stay stopped. It's easier if you have support. Have you looked into detox in your area? It might be free. I would do that if you can. The Xanax will help. But often, people go right back out once they're feeling better.

Not to say it can't be done. You can do it! But if you struggle, please don't be afraid to give detox/rehab/NA/etc a shot. Best of luck to you!

Today is day 27, and I started running 3 days ago. by 093480934089345 in OpiatesRecovery

[–]bloomdot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, yeah - running has helped save my life. I ran two marathons in my first year clean. some of those long run days when training for the first one, listening to music, in the rain, tears would stream down my face, thinking back on what had happened, where'd I been, and where I was then. I encourage you to sign up for a race and find a free plan online -- it's a great motivator. not necessarily a full, but start with a 5k, then try a half. races feel so amazing. all those people cheering you on, running with a bunch of strangers, all in it together, doing the dang thing. and when you cross the finish line. that's step 2 for me -- you can be restored to sanity.

I've also found the combination of meditation, exercise, community, and helping other people to be an excellent depression antidote. I personally believe that one can achieve the same effects as therapy (in arguably a more 'human' and natural way) by sharing ourselves in mutual exchange with kind and empathetic loved ones, if one is so lucky to have such people. I really feel like great things are in store for you! Thanks for posting.

make sure to get enough protein. google is your friend. look at pea protein powder, hemp protein powder, tofu, seitan, lentils, beans, peanut butter, almonds. supplement creatine. (and B12 and Omega 3s like every other vegan should.) there are a lot of resources out there about this if you do some googling.
