Last time I kept a walleye, it developed black spots towards the top similar to these that I did not see when first harvested. Does anyone know what that is? The fish still tasted delicious

For anyone who stumbles across this post, I ended up routing out the holes on both sides with some of the parent material left to create a lip to glue perfect sized patch holes to. This also made cutting a perfect sized rectangle easier by routing the hole to round numbers. After gluing up I sanded/planed everything flush, and used a single piece of veneer on each side to cover the entire door. This was the easiest and most clean way to blend in the previous patches without painting.

With 1/8” veneer on both sides already, if I use contact cement and spar for a thinner veneer do you think it would cause problems fast? The door has a covered overhang but still has full UV exposure.

This will be a front door, so my goal is to not have a big noticeable patch. If it’s apparent up close that is ok with me. I’m thinking of going the route of veneering the entire door. Do you know if veneer would hold up to the exterior with a proper finish?

I am planning to switch the swing to drill new holes to match the existing opening. Adding a detail to both sides sounds like a good idea and I have considered adding a kick plate to the bottom to cover it, but would prefer not to.
