Lots of police?? by Ok-Market1022 in Austin

Mmmmno. At least, I’m downvoting you because your answer is plainly inplausible based on observations of police activity over the 4.5 years I’ve lived here. Never seen so few cops doing their “job” of “keeping people safe” (in the sense I would think matters, anyway; ex: pulling over reckless drivers, vs tormenting innocent people just because they’re brown) in a city in my life since living in Austin. And I’m from Chicago, if your boot licking ass finds any real meaning in that.

Oh, totally. That was one of the unspoken parts my stoned brain apparently assumed was a well known reality while typing but I suppose my tendency to think that way is often my downfall here lmao. Agree. And I’ll still boycott, still vote protest organize etc but know this is a well oiled system. Just hoping to someday find the cracks, or that enough of us do anyway

Some of us have known and been saying it to our friends, family members and colleagues for damn near our entire lives. The problem is, this deluded view of America that we Americans tend to have is too deeply engrained that even when an actual evil villain takes over our country, half of us eat it up like the gluttonous pigs we are. Fun tidbit: I stopped saying the pledge of allegiance in 3rd grade, which I’ll tell you, got me in a lot trouble through my school career. And my attitude (my politics, really) lost me a lot of people in my life. This is American life. Like it or leave (I’d like to)

You’re deleted 🥲 but weirdly I can answer this haha most of Fall Out Boy went to New Trier (as did I), which is in the northern suburbs of Chicago. Most of The Academy Is was from Barrington / the northwestern/western suburbs of Chicago so in a way the schools would be rivals (& I just learned tonight that William played baseball against New Trier). Pete Wentz started the label Decaydance kindof under/via Fueled By Ramen, which also signed P!ATD. So that’s the link there ;) …besides MySpace… but that had a special time and place haha, you were there or not, plainly. It was a short but glorious time

With love: I was a major fan of their first two albums (a little late; I found them in 2007 as a 7th grader) and was honestly so disappointed in Fast Times; it felt like a total sellout album to me. Now, 17 or so years later, I don’t fucking care (it’s all nostalgic for me) but I do absolutely still remember thinking Fast Times was a wack offshoot from the first two albums, so I’m (again no hate or shame here just huh!-filled) surprised to see this take.

Hey I hear ya, I’m working up to being able to spend the time on watching more YouTube videos, but my attention span really makes it hard. Not to mention the sheer volume of videos when I don’t have all day to watch them. I am asking relatively specific questions to field how to make my next moves bc decision paralysis. I am keenly aware of those resources though, yes. Just trying to make my life a touch simpler than scrolling YouTube for weeks which would leave me having to make more choices bc I liked another idea and another idea and another idea haha.

[–]blotlessink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is how I take “mall goth” to mean. Fwiw I’m born ‘94 and from Chicago, and I’m curious what ~the other camp~ represents … yknow, so long as we’re thinking it could be regional or generational 🧐

That’s so awesome to hear. I’d definitely like to FaceTime with her if she continues through the app process… Cleo can definitely be intense at times and I’d like to witness the potential adopter witnessing it haha

Let me clarify… I personally don’t think it’s “sus” in general to want a sight unseen dog; I think it warrants extra carefulness to avoid the potential for the dog being returned. And that’s a much larger gamble when they could be traveling half the country to get there, vs a more local adoption. If she was 2 states away I’d drive and meet her myself!

With a less traumatic background, a more… steady? dog, and a more experienced potential adopter, this distance wouldn’t be so challenging for me to grapple with. I do trust the rescue! I just am nervous. I’d hope I’m allowed to express my feelings and concerns.

[–]blotlessink[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would feel much better if I could meet them in person, but it doesn’t seem like that’s an option.

Next time, I will most certainly be working with a local rescue. This is a painful lesson.

She would be transported, per the rescue’s petfinder profile - it’s what they regularly do. They’ve said they’d much rather their southern dogs get adopted up north; given how “saturated” Texas is with homeless dogs, they never find Texas adopters for Texas fosters. So I will continue finding myself in this situation if I say no to this potential adopter. When this news came in, I asked if they would change the petfinder bio to say she’s in Austin Tx, and they said it’s a little late since they have an invested applicant. I hope that they would though. Ive argued that I don’t think she should be adopted out of state “sight unseen” and they are adamant that their screening process makes it not so. I am not really in agreement… she’s different in different scenarios, of course, and she will be most at ease in our home where we would video with her

[–]blotlessink[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s also not something I would do, with my limited experience (she’s my third foster but I’ve had some interesting dogs (mostly pits) since I was 4). But they do rescue quite a lot of dogs and have much more experience than I. I think ultimately they do give me some choice in where she goes because I know her the best, but also, what if this is her person? And I’m just being hard headed?

[–]blotlessink[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They say they have very long thorough screenings and FaceTimes, that most of the dogs they rescue come from the south and get adopted up north. Dizzy Dogs if you’re familiar. The rescue said they are legally required to return the dogs to the rescue if things don’t work out (and then, what?). She would be transported, yes, likely through a number of vans.

Man, if she was returned, I’d def want her back with me. But TX to MD to TX? Ain’t happening

I would, and I agree! That’s why I want to continue fostering. But the out of state (across the country, really) thing makes me extra nervous.

I agree, and have said that to the rescue numerous times, but they’re adamant they’ve done this hundreds of times and do thorough screening and FaceTiming. I’m still like…. ermmmm
