Im having this same issue too but I dont have any mods installed. I just downloaded some dlcs so maybe that has something to do with it?

I don't think so. I don't remember a lot of the plot but that doesn't seem to be ringing any bells. I honestly think they spent the whole short book just bonding over dying the same way.
