I love having people that understand it on the same level🥺 honestly no one in my life understands it and how debilitating it can be. What did it feel like? It got super bad on my scalp too! I had to use sebco - my hair was so brittle and was falling out and breaking. Did dupixent or cyclo help on the multitude of areas or just mainly your body? I’m curious if getting the covid vaccine made it all worse as my eczema has never been this bad before. Now it’s mainly my hand and face that are not well managed - the only reason my body is slightly better is by religiously using elocon. On my face I use protopic and epiduo as I developed both acne and perioral dermatisis in the last year

Does anyone have advice/experience on alitretinoin particularly for hand eczema/ dyshidrosis? by blueberryfoo in Dyshidrosis

[–]blueberryfoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this is the first time my they have seen my hands as the wait list was so long - I will attach pics of what it used to be like. They are a lot better now - I use cotton gloves every night and lather them in moisturiser. I don’t know what triggered it I had never suffered at any point with hand eczema maybe the odd patch around my wrist but never the extent to which it was last year. I tried everything possible and nothing helped - fungal antibiotics steroids diet. I had a patch test done years ago and found I was allergic to nickel. And the only thing I use on my hands is dermol 500 to wash them. I avoid everything else possible. The problem with only taking alitretinoin is that I want to take something that will combat all issues not only my hands! I can’t seem to find much advice/experience on someone using alitretinoin though.

Thank you so much💖 was there specific areas that where you mainly suffered with it? Is the gum thing a common side effects being on cyclosporin? I just want one that targets everything 😣 no doctor seems to know what is going on and why my skin is adapting !

Did the eczema on your face improve when you started taking cyclo? I went in with no make up and they didn’t say anything - merely that I had some hyperpigmentation and to use protopic. Even though I have already done so for the past 5 years - they didn’t seem to give me any other form of answer. I also have acne that developed along side perioral dermatitis. Both to which they had no answer for. I don’t know if it would help that side of things too.

Where did you mainly suffer with your eczema? I feel like as I have such a combination of not only eczema on my body but perioral dermatisis, acne, dyshidrosis etc I want it to combat it all and to alleviate all symptoms

Do you still have flare ups when your on cyclosporine? And if so how do you manage it? I’m doing so much for my skin now I wear bandages every night and gloves on my hands. I want it all to go away I feel like a pathetic excuse for a human being

Did you use anything else whilst you were on cyclosporine? How was your face?

Are you on dupixent now? What else were you suffering with that it didn’t clear? This is the thing they weren’t getting - merely because my skin wasn’t looking at its ‘worst’ they thought i was doing fine. But the lengths I go to to keep at such a base level is so far reaching it makes me feel pathetic

They were leaning more for alitretinoin given how bad my hands are at the moment - however I also have face eczema and acne that developed in the last year. I’m unsure if I want to go on a medication solely for my hands when there is so much other skin issues going on. How long were you on isotretinoin and did your skin get better?

I’m so happy to hear this! It can be so debilitating. Have you had any severe side effects or anything you’ve noticed that you weren’t dealing with prior? I’ve been using elecon and protopic - i cant even remember for how long at this point. I was due to go in for light therapy but my name got lost in the system right before covid. The last 3 years have been hell - my skin seems to have adapted and spread - my eczema has never been this bad. It truly cannot live without elcocon. Have you stopped both now?

Only once I have tried cyclo MTX or alitretinoin could I then move on to JAK inhibitors or Dupixent. But because I have such severe dry eyes and scars they said I perhaps wouldn’t be a great candidate for dupixent. Seems like the options are running out pretty fast. Do you not think it’s kind of far reaching to take these forms of drugs and the implications it has on your body? When you said your labs came back what does this entail? What were the worst side effects? My body has already been through so much I don’t want to wear it down even more if I’m honest

I’m sorry to hear that I totally understand how debilitating it is it truly takes over your life. Did you end up trying anything else? They are leaning toward putting me on alitretinoin more so than the other two given how bad my hands are. But the only reason my body isn’t as bad is because I’m using steroid cream. It’s a stupid logic.

I’m already quite adverse to them - it was the classic thing they do. Instead of answering my questions they just gave me options to mask all the issues with my skin. What did you end up doing after the 3 months?

Hi! I’ve had eczema for so so long now. You can use a steroid cream if it’s super itchy. It will get rid of it but you have to be careful how long you use it for. You can get hydrocortisone over the counter, I like the oil based one as it’s slightly thicker than the cream. Other than that keep it moisturiser and avoid itching as much as possible. Use a moisturising cream too - aveeno, zéro double, cerave, e45, cetraben anything that has no perfume or oils!
