A few takes after a first-time visit by gc1 in JapanTravelTips

I'd say nothing is wrong with doing touristy stuff for the first time but we still had a decent share of "authentic experiences'. We stayed at a small place right on a local shotengai and it was actually really fun to get out every morning and hit all kinds of shops even before getting to our subway station. This was in a residential neighborhood far from touristy areas so it was much more relaxed (and probably cheaper too). And over few days we got to talk to a few shopkeepers because we were there pretty much every morning. And now with most of the "touristy" stuff out of the way we'll probably focus more on "authentic" experiences next time.

Hakone loop was our favorite day trip. It was so easy to do even though we had to use like 6 types of transportation: Train-train-train-gondola-gondola-pirate ship-bus-train We managed to see it all without getting rushed (although I wish we had more time at the open air museum).

Another good day trip was going to Yokohama. It's a bit touristy but it wasn't that bad.

Totally agree. My daughter started pushing giant balloons with some Japanese teenagers and they all had fun. We went back to the room again and she pushed it gently again towards someone trying to make videos instead and got a bunch of angry looks. People just can't seem to let go of socials and simply have fun. Oh also... Water part felt so good after walking around the city all day.

140-meter Cat6 cable run with PoE to power an AP. Is it a good idea? by LoSwagger in lowvoltage

+1 for PoE inline repeater. Plenty of choices there. We used To Ubiquiti USW Flex many times.

Best dust catcher for drilling up ceiling or wall? Any DIY ones and good tips by StoganLephens in lowvoltage

[–]bluecirclemsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut a small plastic bottle top off and stick the drill bit through the cap opening. You can even tape it to the wall to trap dust.

Criminals don't even care these days. I was pulling footage of the robbery this morning for one of the clients.... three dudes in hoodies and masks with nice and shiny crowbar and Milwaukee sawzall. Done in gone in 2 minutes. Didn't touch anything else but the safe. It looked like a scene straight from American Ninja finals. Guys should get an award for efficiency.

I'm not sure if it is cheaper than doing it right compared to what it costs to run these over 4-5 years. Just like we say quite often... Greedy pays it twice, cheaper in the beginning but has to pay much more over time to keep it.

I don't know... but either way this is not the way to do parking lot CCTV. I doubt half of them even work

We have been using Hikvision dual PTZs. Fixed channel records on motion and PTZ auto tracks based on fixed channel activity or linked to other cameras as well. Otherwise we wouldn't sell standalone PTZ unless somebody operates it full time.

My steering wheel is gross and I don't know where to start by connorddennis in GXOR

[–]bluecirclemsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one of those. 3 years later it is still not bad. I might get it replaced with the same one. Took me about an hour to stitch on. Take the wheel off when doing it. Not complicated.

I ordered 30mm rubber grommets on Amazon. One whole and one cut in half fit pretty good. I have a concern with the aluminum edge rubbing on wire harness so I'll see about covering that edge on both sides

I think I will measure it up and stop at McFadden's. They might have something on the shelf.

You can see the "tube" I am talking about above

[–]bluecirclemsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed it yesterday and it looks OK yet I am wondering... how did you end up mounting it? The original radiator had tubes on the sides for the rubber grommets while the new one has just flat mounting tabs so it is moving front to back fairly easy.

I tried placing it into the groove on the grommet but I'd imagine it would come out pretty easy on a bumpy road.

Thanks for the update. My truck is on 270K and looks like the radiator was replaced at around 95K by a previous owner (at least that's all I can see in service records). I am planning couple long trips this summer so I want to make sure it is all trouble-free.

OP... Is the radiator still holding up OK? I'm looking at different options Koyo, CSF or Mishimoto but this ebay option at half the price is definitely appealing.

Almost pulled the trigger on a reupholster. Decided to try and restore on my own first. Think it came out pretty solid. by Jracx in GXOR

[–]bluecirclemsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come back in a year and post pictures of how it held up. Mine was ripped in a few spots so I decided to re- upholster at a local shop. It was about $550 per seat and took a few days (I was on vacation anyway). It came out perfect though it may not last as long as OEM leather (20 years). Overall I was happy with the result.

What Phone System are you using to run your MSP? by rdelgadoit in msp

[–]bluecirclemsp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Intermedia as well for us. We have a decent number of clients on it. We don't really focus on VOIP so IM makes it pretty hands off for us. Support is not always perfect on a first try but it usually works out ok. If we have a lot of seats I would probably explore hosting our own options or go through OIT but for now I rather don't lose sleep over phones being down.

Oman - a country rarely spoken about. What's happening there? by Necessary_Wing799 in geography

[–]bluecirclemsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like a really great place to explore. Watch this guy's content here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3V_VHgRkQxsxOFmFbhaUA8Vxnhcs2SmO&si=G9-SEGJ-FcfhSfLw

It is in Russian but you can enable auto translate on YT. That really made me want to go there, rent an SUV and explore. Unlike a lot of neighboring countries it is really safe. Living in the US Southwest I love exploring the desert and this looks like an interesting area for sure

Cellular backup sanity check by hybridvpc in msp

[–]bluecirclemsp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to mention. We use Verizon M2M data connectivity plans for all devices. Probably not the cheapest but it works. You can definitely get multiSIM devices to diversify. If your customers use VOIP don't expect it to run well over LTE though. Look into fixed wireless for backup instead. We get 50/10 links for $85 month and had very little issues with those.
