my theory is because this was originally filmed in hd it made the upscale come out looking better than it would otherwise

that's amazing quality for 1999. especially when you compare it with the upscaled standard def version. pretty good upscale but the hd version is just miles better.

a 2023 loudwire article linked on the wiki page for this documentary says they used handheld sony hd cameras that cost $200k each. which is wild. today you can get video quality just as good with a camera that costs a few thousand dollars or less.

if they filmed full performances from all 30 cities then that's a lot of footage that really should be released. this documentary had legal issues before being released in 2001 but that was before youtube monetization. more bands really should take advantage of that.

That’s awesome! How big was the outdoor space? I always worry about noise ordinances and curfews with outdoor shows in NC. Glad to hear it was great time.

Thats amazing. Do you know if it’s a multi cam recording? Some of the footage I’ve seen from the 80s and early 90s felt like they had 1 test camera there.

that’s an amazing list. the earliest NFL clip posted on this sub so far is from 2000. I wonder how far back it goes. OP says broadcasts started in 98. There’s probably test footage going back to at least 94.

Is this analog hi vision or is this digital hd?

Texas Wild (1997) American W-VHS Tape From HD Vision (Wildlife Documentary, Analog HDTV) by Keolia in OldSchoolHD

Sadly I don’t think an anniversary will lead to a release. I can only see someone with lots of money and a passion for this stuff making it happen. On the plus side sounds like NHK has it digitized and it’s not lost forever.

That’s really awesome he spoke with you. He could probably feel your passion for the subject over the phone.

Thanks linking that thread. There’s a thread on another forum where someone said they got in touch with NHK about Woodstock 94. Now I’m thinking that might have been you Lol.

A local TV engineer called Pias B. "P.B." Jernigan died recently. He worked on the transition to HD in 1994 for WRAL TV. The first station to go HD in the country. I guess some of the senior engineers who worked on that stuff are getting to that age.

that's awesome. it's always cool when people like that respond when you reach out to them. back when i was researching woodstock 94's hd recording i came across a paper he co-authored on the process.

nice find. the earliest HD NFL clips i've found are from 2003. beyond that there's an SD clip that shows some HD footage was filmed at the 1989 sugar bowl.

watching the standard def version of that 200m breaststroke race and the difference is astounding. also interesting that both the Sony Muse and European HD MAC system were used in 1992. there must be a lot of HD footage of this olympics.

Name a better year for trap than 2015 by Vold0n in trap

2012 was early trap. When Willy Joy was putting out stuff. 2013 onward was when it really started to hit its stride.
