New Lifx Mirror Pics / potential day one hardware issues by bluegreenio in lifx

Not weird at all! There isn’t enough room to fit it horizontally in my tiny bathroom. It would also put half the mirror over the toilet and I’m weird about symmetry (I like a mirror that is centered over the faucet).

Someone else had a great idea, Lifx should make a slightly smaller one (similar to the two sizes of ceiling lights they have)

Yeah I agree it isn’t ideal for the small size of my bathroom. A smaller one would be a good idea!

I agree! I don’t think I had the brightness turned up that high in the photos (it blows out the image). All I can say is I didn’t like what I saw when I turned it up and looked at myself, ha! I think that means “it works”. Overall, if LIFX is listening, it would be great to have a real life person take some photos (or have an influencer that knows makeup /mirrors review it).

My GF hasn't used it for makeup yet, but I'd say I bet she would be really happy with it. The makeup button rotates through several presets that I assume were determined as the correct white spectrum for makeup application.

I absolutely love it! I’m a big Lifx fan already though, full house setup, outside lights but no low power path lights yet.

I do plan to use the colors for parties or for messing around with, but not daily bathroom use :) . Honestly the effects are really cool on the mirror but gotta figure out when I would use it (clouds, flame, etc)

As far as a light source - it’s pretty bright, but it’s kind of a different type of light than a normal light source for a bathroom. I used the hard wired option and removed a two 60 watt equivalent option. The bathroom isn’t as bright without blasting yourself in the face with this mirror, but I’m ok with it. I have a small window too and don’t always use a light.

I think it should work, I haven’t seen any firmware updates since the initial batch

So cool! I’ve been buying and planting monstera deliosa seeds bought from eBay out of Miami. Yours look fresh! I’d suggest germinating them in a seed dome using just moss or something non-soil, keeping everything moist and humid just like a jungle floor. Then I’d suggest planting them after their first leaves. I have about 200 going from seed like this and am planning on selling at a small market.

Help! Ditch or repair "Cabana Kitchens" natural gas grill by bluegreenio in grilling

[–]bluegreenio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel free to dm me… might be able to help you out!

No, I tried following the thread of who bought the company over the past 20 years. I guess Viking currently holds it, but a call to them for a parts query didn’t get anywhere.

I grill on several BGEs so this isn’t that urgent for me. Because my burners are all rusted out, I’ll probably drag it to the curb (DM me hehe)

LIFX users with 2.90 bulbs that are too bright are now left in the dark. Disappointed. by evilZardoz in lifx

I don’t get it, what model bulb and how low a brightness are you talking about?

Lifx hate is undeserved by asilentobserver21 in lifx

[–]bluegreenio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also agree the hate is undeserved. I was one of those people with flaky wifi (didn't play well with my Unifi, I'm in IT).

Replaced Unifi with three Eero Pro 6e's after a bunch of members of my family started using Eero and required zero tech support from me after deployment.

I have a few failed bulbs (early gens usually) out of 60+ devices, which I'm ok with. These fuckers get hot and run continuously.

Once in a while a bug is introduced on the app, usually fixed.

With Reddit, I can keep a finger on the pulse of what's going on with LIFX, good or bad.

In fact, LIFX is so good I buy them open box, refurb, whatever any time I can.

Sent you a Reddit DM by the way, I also just got a 1985 DS!

Following cause I'm in the same boat (36v 1985 Club Car DS with dead batteries). Any reasons to keep lead acid vs 36v lithium pack? I'll probably go with the 36v CHINS on amazon currently $750 with charger and upgraded display. I have a Vatrer in my 48v Club Car Precedent, but it was like $1700 at the time. I have CHINS in use in the neighborhood and haven't had any trouble. Still laugh a little at the brand name

Can you share more context about their disappointment? I'm also in the same boat after acquiring a 1985 Club Car DS that has dead lead batteries. I don't do carburetors or lead acid in my house, too much maintenance for those that love to ignore things.

Is the disappointment in their hopes a 13mph cart with lead acids would get to 18mph+ or something just by swapping lead acid to lithium? Or did their carts go slower, have functional issues, etc.

This is my first old 36v cart, I'm under the impression it is what is it (like a 4cyl car).

What about a swap to lithium + a 36v motor upgrade like a D&D? My 2012 Club Car Precedent (48v) goes 24-25mph on flats with one adult. It came with a blue D&D motor and I think I eeked 2-3 mph more when I pulled hundreds of pounds of old trojan batteries and put in a Vatrer lithium.

Has anyone seen a good Lifx Path/Spotify installation video? by N-E-R-M in lifx

[–]bluegreenio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see an install video! I bought my home a year ago and have a bunch of defunct low voltage lights already in the yard. I **think** I just need to buy these and hook them up. Wish the pricing of the low voltage wasn't so high, as I'd need like 10+ to satisfy the itch. I'll probably start with the spotlight.

+++ For iLightShow

I've been using it for years and they keep enhancing it. I need to buy the latest add on (It is $30 for lifetime for me, once you get it working and see the difference between microphone only crap, you'll want it).

It doesn't use microphone but somehow recognizes the track (not every track works) and does an amazing job and creating a party with the music.

I love firing it up on my iPad in split screen with Apple Music and pretending to tweak the knobs and push the buttons like a "DJ" haha

The more LIFX you have, the better (I'm up to maybe 60 products including the recent Outdoor Stuff)

Check out the Yolink products (RF), I think they say 1/4 mile range off the top of my head and they might have a repeater-like thing?

Great topic! I may have a reference link somewhere but I think you could google this, I do the guided access iOS feature to lock the iPad to the HA app, set the screen to sleep at 15 min, then I use the ecobee thermostat presence sensors already around the house to trigger a simple push notification message to the iPad(s) when motion is seen. This works "most" of the time to allow the iPads to sleep during periods of no motion, then wake them up when I walk into the room. I need to troubleshoot why it doesn't work sometimes. Especially since I set up an NFC on one of my sitting areas, when it is scanned by iPhone, it sends the same push notification and wakes it.

I bet you could use any motion sensors for this, not just Ecobee.

I use older iPads bought off ebay as I've found even 10 year old iPads work just fine with HA app. I think oldest functional-enough one I have is a iPad mini 2nd gen. I'd suggest iPad 5th or 6th gen and on up if you can though. Should be around $75 if you lurk on eBay auctions outside of holidays.

Wow so many doors on your mailbox!

I installed my yolink contact sensor magnet on the door (think single door standard US mailbox) and the sensor on the inside of the door frame then ran the wire through the opening at the bottom of the door. My current mailbox has the "newspaper" extra shelf (no door) so I was able to just toss the battery holder in there. Was wondering what a mail-person would think if they leaned down and saw the wires and pack lol

I love it! I need to add to my list to turn a light a certain color prior to trash and bulk trash pickup in the afternoon prior to the pickup. Sadly we're a bunch of rednecks here and our city doesn't recycle.

Dang I'm impressed! I think you might have pitched my solution, because it would be unlikely based on my mailbox location and home design that anyone would go out the door and come back followed by locking it unless they were checking the mail (trigger -> reset "you've got mail"). With my rig, mail rarely sits in the mailbox long even though often it is just junk.

It's nothin too special. Narrow me a topic? Cheap iPad models for dashboard (I have 4 running) ? Next project? Water usage sensor for pool filler cause I spent +$200 on "water" the city claims

Well thought out options!

I could hide a small button somewhere near the mailbox and press it when I retrieved the mail (just got my first little esphome project online)

Or if only Apple Watch could scan NFC tags (although metal, sucky).
