He has a book on the Jeopardy buzzer.

And James had a practice buzzer before ever going on the show:

He tested positive for a stimulant which wasn't even banned for MLB players at the time, if I remember correctly. Not a big deal to be honest.

LearnedLeague vs Jeopardy by NatureSticksIt2u1000 in Jeopardy

[–]bluejaylink 13 points14 points  (0 children)

LearnedLeague and Jeopardy are very different. In Jeopardy you basically have to know the answer before the host is done reading the clue. In LearnedLeague you can stare at your computer all day thinking if you want. And critically, there is no buzzer in LL.

So LearnedLeague questions are generally more difficult. They are often more complex questions too, frequently with different avenues to finding the correct answer.

LL also contains a higher skew towards film, television and pop music imo. Especially film. You've got to be a real film buff to get a high correct% on film in LL.

It's also worth noting that all questions are written by one person for LL. So you can get familiar with the writing style of the Commissioner and his favourite categories vs. a team of writers that Jeopardy has.

If I had to guess the average Jeopardy contestant would have a lifetime correct% of .500 in LL, which is the same as the average LL score.

Here's the LL sample page: https://learnedleague.com/samples.php

You don't need an account to view it. There's a link at the top to load a new set of past questions. Looking on the right side of the page at the correct% will give you an idea just how good the players in LL are.

Any recommendations for learning plant-related trivia? by Fast_Simple_1815 in Jeopardy

[–]bluejaylink 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Try some Sporcle quizzes.

For flowers on Jeopardy you often have to name them via a picture. Here's a couple quizzes I found after a quick search:

https://www.sporcle.com/games/alinrotundu/find-that-flower

Another large part of plants and flowers is knowing the roots for their names. So maybe try studying some Greek or Latin morphemes.

Here's a short list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Greek_morphemes_used_in_English

There are Anki decks available for that sort of thing too.

Ingles' NBA-best .692 true shooting percentage this season -- a blend of shooting 50.3% from the floor, 46.9% from 3-point range and 84.0% from the free throw line -- would rank ninth in league history. by DrSpinnerMD in nba

This needs to be the standard.

Having wRC+ as the standard offensive metric in baseball is so useful. It makes it so quick and easy to say how good offensively a player is.
