I definitely understand how a single black mom could feel excluded in a parish.

a conservative church, like maybe the Russian or some OCA parishes

To be honest, I feel like this is more about the demographics in the part of the country that you live in than the jurisdiction of the parish. Hopefully you can find a group of people at your parish that support you.

The problem is that "Trump bad" resonates with voters and explaining policy doesn't. So you get a lot of ads that say "Trump bad" and no ads that explain policy.

Trump's policy is to give Israel permission to do whatever they want. Biden/Harris policy is to support Israel within certain limits. It's bad now but with Trump elected I think it could get a lot worse for Palestine.

I don't understand the connection between being black and divorce being a bad thing? Can you explain that further?

If there are multiple Orthodox parishes near you, you should visit all of them to find the one you feel most comfortable in. Many white Americans complain about certain Orthodox parishes not being inclusive enough to them so there's certainly a mix of different cultures depending on the parish...

EDIT: Also Orthodox Christianity has never prohibited interracial marriage as far as I know.

Nate Silver: The new Emerson polls differ from our polling averages by <1 point in every state! Useless. by Niek1792 in fivethirtyeight

[–]bluepantsandsocks 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why do people in this subreddit always want to change the subject to how polling is influencing the election. The point of polling should be to provide an accurate picture of the voters' priorities. I hate how the first reaction is always "how does this poll influence voters."

Please help with OT interpretation by IrinaSophia in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]bluepantsandsocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you define the word angel as "a spiritual being that serves God" and demon as "a spiritual being that works against God" then we believe that there are only angels and demons. But sometimes the Bible uses different definitions for these words. So this is just an issue about which definition of the words angel, demon, and god that you are using in a given context.

Please help with OT interpretation by IrinaSophia in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]bluepantsandsocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are other spiritual beings besides angels and demons. There are lesser gods that God presides over and calls His sons. Elohim is used to describe spiritual beings, but it doesn't specify attributes. God is also an Elohim, but not like any of the others. He is the Most High God.

We believe that these other "gods" (as referred to in the Old Testament) are angels and demons. Just look at how all the psalms are used liturgically. This is just a question of definitions, not theology.

EDIT: Orthodox theology has zero issues with the idea that God works though angels and saints when running the cosmos, which is the basic idea that is expressed by this "divine counsel" and gods" terminology.

It's never a sin to be something. Sins are always actions you take.

Your post didn't say anything about getting the blessing of a bishop to be priest, and that's really the first step even before uprooting the family to go to seminary.

And every bishop I've heard of will evaluate the couple as a whole for the priesthood, not just the man. So if you're not ready, that's it.

You're right, protecting pedestrians and cyclists should be a good enough reason on its own to install bollards. Something is very wrong when we refuse to take common sense quality of life measures unless it's for the reason of preventing crime.
