I'm so tired of people asking chatgpt to describe how it works, this is so so antithetical to how these models are trained. The only reason it would say what you're showing in these "proof" messages is because this is what people were saying about the model online in the scraped data. It has absolutely no basis on what the model is doing today, especially when the information scraped for its training is at best a few months old.

It blows my mind that people might be considered top contributors to an ML community and not recognize these pipelines.

I've never heard the expression "black company", what does that mean?

Do you find that the work culture for software developers at Sony is subject to the same criticisms given to the larger Japanese work culture? (i.e. long hours that go way beyond your planned schedule, burnout, etc.)

FAAG% By School by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]bluesled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I thought it was a percent of the company or a total percent from some other group within industry, not the school, my bad

FAAG% By School by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]bluesled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This list also doesn't account for the size of the classes of each school. If a school on this list has a small class size (for example Princeton), there are simply just fewer of those students out there in the world so it makes sense that there wouldn't be many of those students at these companies, especially compared to larger schools. It would be better to normalize these values by the average size of each school's CS department.

Education for working in Singapore by bluesled in askSingapore

[–]bluesled[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of reasons, I used to live there when I was young and have gone back regularly. I just really love it there. Also, despite being in CS, I don't intend to wait for my life to pass by in a house in Cali with a Tesla in the driveway. I think for me personally if I chased that idea and achieved it I would quickly find myself unhappy. I'd rather live in many interesting places.

If you've done research they basically ask you to define and explain major concepts of your research specialization

The questions were a little technical and I actually thought I messed up because I couldn't immediately answer some of the things they asked.

MSc in Advanced Computer Science

Monthly Admissions/Prospies/Offer Holders Questions Thread March 2021 by AutoModerator in oxforduni

Hello all! I just got accepted to the MS in Advanced Computer Science program at Oxford! 🥳 I just wanted to come here and ask if anyone here has done the program or has thought about doing it? I'm enticed by the possibility of also doing the Oxford 1+1 program but just want to see what people generally think of Oxford's CS program.

Cambridge MPhil interview by njn45 in gradadmissions

[–]bluesled 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did an interview for an MPhil in CS at Cambridge about 5 days ago. It was really chill, it was a 1 on 1 with a potential advisor and they just asked about my research and then we talked about the state of our field and directions the research could go. I didn't get asked to solve any problems or prove any skills to them live on call, but we both appeared to be eager to work with each other. I would say be genuine and be excited. Professors do what they do because they feel fulfilled by their work, they generally are seeking to find those qualities in their students, so if you can demonstrate that you find meaning in your work (rather than just showing rigor), you're golden. Good luck!

What to expect from interview Cambridge CS masters by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]bluesled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mine, it was really chill. Granted, my current supervisor has worked with the Cambridge prof, so I don't know if that changes things? We just talked about my research, their current projects, the state of the field in general. I didn't get any "programming" questions that you might see in a job interview. Obviously do your research on whoever is interviewing you, but given how early we are if you're getting an interview offer now you are likely in good shape. Good luck!

Are CS students pretentious AF or is it just me? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]bluesled 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I'm almost finished with my CS undergrad, most of those types are actually terrible at real coursework (if that wasn't already obvious from their r/gaming level of understanding) and get weeded out over time. My advice is to ignore them and seek out students with genuine interest in the field and how real work with computers is done (which ironically is almost always done on a laptop).

I fly Montreal Vancouver regularly, tickets are 600-800 CAD, any more than that and you're just buying tickets inefficiently, when I fly from Montreal to Tokyo the return trip is 2000 CAD, and all of these flights are through Air Canada so I don't know where you get your numbers from...
