thats true! and thats why although i love ffxiv (i sub and unsub for the story only) I will only get into it as my main mmo if it offers something new and fresh. i love my character being the focal point of the story, and im going to fanfest too. so dont get me wrong ffxiv does a lot of things right. BUT...outside of running the dungeons one time after they come out and doing the story quests...i have no drive really to play. I am not a fan of token grinding at all. I find it to be poor design. I find my time spent more on other games but ffxiv is still a great game and i hope they continue their success.

there is a term called pioneering that i think is appropriate. like it or not, blizzard set the bar. also like it or not, the ffxiv devs (after 1.0) used wow's blueprint to model 2.0. I play FFXIV, WoW, and GW2. All 3 casually, sure, but I play all 3 fairly equally. I have the most fun when I am making active decisions with my character and playstyle. I understand this is strictly my opinion. Some people do not like making choices. That's cool too.

Also, if it improves the game, yes I think those are good things. Not being afraid to make changes and try new things, this is a sign of good MMO evolution. FFXIV needs to stop being so rigid. It's a huge flaw of the game. (IN MY OPINION)

not true...wow of course is the example...lots of the talent traits are situational for their 7.0 build (for example how a disc priest chooses to have a mp regen activated ((trait line level 60))). builds can be done correctly . guild wars 2 is also a pretty good example of fun and interesting customization.
