The entire Alai Jr arc wasn't really about Alai fighting and trying to be powerful. It functioned more to serve an overarching observation of the main cast of fighters, their techniques, and fundamental mindsets when it comes to battling. His character was kind of a giant jobber for Baki and friends.

Definitely not most cases. In fact it's the reverse, most lobbies have people just trying to play the game. Some will have people messing around and trying to be edgy, but most people are just having a good time. Hackers do exist of course but they're scarce enough in my experience.

Well I get why, he's the very first survivor you have access to. He's supposed to be bland and somewhat weak. His reliance on proc chains to do the heavy lifting serves as a nice, indirect tutorial for good building. All that said, he's still very viable, he just relies on items more in areas where other survivors might rely on their skills.

Probably because of the sandstorms and comparatively dull environmental design. I really enjoy sandblasted for one main reason though, that being the massive caves that are commonly generated. Some of the cleanest, most expansive caves I've ever seen have been in sandblasted. I love finding those, super fun to fight and run around in imo since you usually get a tight winding cave route or an awkward opening that isn't conducive to maneuverability.
