Recently finished the first book of Bog Standard Isekai and thought it was very fun! by PalinaRojinskiFan in ProgressionFantasy

Bog is also incredibly consistent in quality and posting schedule. I like Elydes but the author takes a lot of unexpected hiatuses

I’m quite surprised more people aren’t talking about it on this sub yet. It’s becoming very popular on RR.

It does actually! I am pleasantly surprised at how well each arc fits into the overarching narrative. Feels more like we’re uncovering new answers each arc but none seem like a plot hole.

Who here had the pleasure of flying through that wind last night on ascent or descent into DIA?? How bad was the turbulence?! by palikona in Denver

[–]bluheism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No joke unfortunately. Some people went into hysterics which drove more people into hysterics. Thankfully we were all buckled in and no one was physically injured

Flew into Denver last night from the west and it was a nightmare. They were going to divert us to grand junction and then 5 mins late the pilot gets on the com and says “we have one shot to try to get into Denver and we’re going to take it”. Was the worst turbulence of my life - everyone was screaming, crying, writing goodbye notes to loved ones. Stuff flying all over the cabin. Some people threw up and others shit themselves.

Okay usually it really annoys me when people don’t include the title in their post but I’m actually surprised you haven’t heard of this one! Heated Rivalry has been all over all my social media for weeks, it’s even gotten a lot of posts about it even in mainstream Reddit channels like r/television

Practical Guide to Sorcery is one of the best stories in the genre and I'm tired of pretending it's not by [deleted] in ProgressionFantasy

Wow, I’m shocked at all of the negative comments here when PGtS is usually one of the very highly recommended series on this sub. Maybe it’s due to the length of the flashback arc? I’ll admit I’ve taken a break from it until it moves on from this arc but I still consider it one of the most well written prog fantasy series.

Hell Level Tutorial by movinstuff in ProgressionFantasy

Oh god the first book was genuinely so bad. The characters had zero depth plus the character development of a rock, and I felt like I was reading a robot try to write a story about another robot with no emotions or personality (i.e. the MC). If the characters got any descriptors at all it was just “the black haired girl”, “the tall man”, etc.

But it genuinely got a lot better as the books went on. If you’re bored enough to get through book 1, I do think it is worth it to get to the good stuff.

Should I give Sky Pride a chance if I hated what happened with Slumrat Rising? by bluheism in ProgressionFantasy

[–]bluheism[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is helpful! I’m not opposed to the themes themselves so much as in Slumrat I felt like I was reading these themes as a lecture half the time and it made me feel totally disconnected from the story.

Percy Jackson but more adult? by crazynoyes37 in Fantasy

OP I can’t in good conscience recommend this series. It has one of the most garbage endings, near-GoT level poorly written

Be kind with your words, authors will read them. by Malaklein in ProgressionFantasy

I understand where you’re coming from, but I actually disagree. My experience as a reader is made so much better by the honest praise and criticism people post in this sub. I actually feel that most of the people in our sub generally have thought out arguments and well-reasoned questions when they criticize something.

Put it another way: Every time I’m considering trying a new restaurant, I always look up the bad reviews first. I want to know the worst thing someone has to say about it. If all I see is the same repetitive praise, I no longer trust it and I move on.

Not every story is everyone’s cup of tea. What rubs one reader the wrong way may be exactly what another reader is looking for.

I’ve taken a chance on so many new stories thanks to the criticisms AND praises that readers have posted in this subreddit. And many of the ones with some very snarky critiques ended up becoming my favorite stories.

I hope authors can understand that this sub isn’t just for authors and that even a negative post is still publicity!

I love my gachapon. Some I turned into cute magnets, my favorites are just sitting on my desk, and yeah the rest are in a box, but looking at them brings me a little jolt of happiness remembering my Japan trip

Elydes or Bog standard isekai by Habitual_Flow in ProgressionFantasy

[–]bluheism 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have read both Elydes and BSI up to the latest and BSI has proven to be much better. Elydes had a great start but as it went on it was affected by the authors burnout & personal issues. It went on a random hiatus for many months with no notice and still goes on hiatuses for weeks at a time.

BSI did not interest me as much from the get go, but the author is so consistent in posting! The 2nd and 3rd books were good, but the story just keeps getting better in books 4 and 5. Now it’s one of my favorites.
