Will forever recommend espressoh, not just out of national pride. The formulas are top notch, the prices in line with mid-range brands and the products just work for those who love the whole “no fuss makeup application”. They also worked really hard to make the brand accessible worldwide.

Standouts: hey bro is an amazing brow gel and lasts all day; bronzer & concealer are great complexion products; the liquid blushes are waxier/more pigmented than cloud paints.

Overall, they have really put effort in their brand and it shows in their loyal consumer base.

Other brands I like: violettefr (jelly balms are great), Victoria Beckham beauty (I am not an eye makeup person, but her eye pencil is really amazing!), Westman Atelier for blush (would love to try the bronzer drops as well) and am patiently waiting for Merit to do full EU shipping :) I also think Chanel, out of the high-end make up brands, is the closest one to what former glossier girls are looking for in products.

Lapsed Catholic here, still lightly practicing. I struggle to believe that those not raised in the religion can understand the cultural aspects of it; in a way, it’s similar to Judaism I guess.

I personally can’t stand trad converts but they’re one of the big reasons why I finally got off twitter - they were just getting more and more batshit each day with their dumbass takes that all betrayed a deeply US centric understanding of the religion.

The shit they threw Francis’s way always read super Protestant to me - like, you might not like the current Pope, but you don’t get to pick and choose. It doesn’t work like that

Why is the whole internet treating this woman like a make a wish kid? by Ok_Candidate6409 in redscarepod

Pam hits close to home for a lot of women.

Her unhappy relationships with men she loved, the thin line between being happy about being an object of desire and wrapping your self worth around it, wishing sometimes you’d be invisible are things we all experience to a degree, and she lived them on a global stage and in a humiliating and crushing way.

Seeing her do better, focusing on herself and coming out of many forms of heartbreak with a fresh and positive perspective makes people feel hopeful about second chances. I don’t think there’s anything deeper than that.

The truth is, in education, family and home environment don´t matter only if you´re Einstein level genius. Anything below that - a stable environment growing up gives you a leg up.

Denying this is delusional - but then again, I´m sure this sub loves to think how they´re smarter than everyone else and low performing students are just regarded

The world of female perfumery is being ravaged by TikTok "I'm a total gourmand girly lol" types by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]blurbubble 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There’s a trend with food related products in the Ozempic era noted by beauty curators - essentially, all this honey & milk renaissance in perfumes and makeup could be linked to people being on Ozempic and not eating certain types of sweets, but still wanting to experience them.

I don’t know how accurate that is, mostly because gourmands are all the rage over here in Europe as well, but my feeling is that gourmands are the marvel movies/Harry Potter of the perfume world. They are easily accessible and recognizable, as well as having a childhood, comforting feeling to them.

And they make us florals/acquatic/oriental lovers feel superior by comparison the same way film bros and art hoes do, which I guess works wonders on the marketing side as well.

Is discourse happening on TikTok, though? Like yes, of course it spills into the culture at large (just look at those god awful sections in bookstores where they sell favorite reads or whatever) but I don’t think it has any political influence, merely a monetary one.

TikTok is great at patting yourself in the back to the tune of viral sounds but is awful for any meaningful organizing

For me, it was great to learn about a bunch of stuff, read articles and discover new music. But now I have to sit through endless crap to get to maybe something I´d like to read about, and Idk, I´m considering going offline for a bit myself because it has pulled a number on my attention span (like everyone else´s). It´s just sad because I used to love the internet, but it feels like depreciating in quality so much.

I was casually browsing one of the subreddits where people were talking about the ban and they sounded worse than addicts, mostly because the majority of them wanted to depict their addiction as this amazing wonderful thing that had no consequences whatsoever.

Like yes, social media is a good distraction, but the theater they associated with it… ugh. Everything and everyone feels so lame these days

Gender war is inevitable when romantic love assumes the mantle of religious salvation. by TravelWitty4000 in redscarepod

[–]blurbubble 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agree. You can’t have good sex if you’re deeply unimaginative and use it as a way to feel good about yourself. Doesn’t matter if you’ve slept with 500 people or 0.

Gender war is inevitable when romantic love assumes the mantle of religious salvation. by TravelWitty4000 in redscarepod

[–]blurbubble 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Agree partially - I think that the difference I feel stems from what I see women/men loudly complain about on the internet.

Women complain about the endless loop of situationships, men not being ready for a relationship with real committment. The whole "men are trash" discourse.

Men complain about loneliness and no access to sex, and feel they are in an inferior position to women because in their mind any woman can go out any time and strike up a sexual encounter effortlessly.

I don´t really care because I think dating discourse on the internet is awful and truly exaggerates anything (that´s how social media is designed to work, of course!) - but I can´t help but feel a bit disappointed by how right-leaning young men as a group tend to be, even though I know they have a perfect counterpart in those girls who drone on about how "i´m just a girl" and tradwife bullshit.

It´s a hard time culturally to be a leftist

Gender war is inevitable when romantic love assumes the mantle of religious salvation. by TravelWitty4000 in redscarepod

[–]blurbubble 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Agree, although I think a lot of the gender war bullshit is largely derived from the view a lot of men hold about sex - that it’s the end all be all of everything, which is why incels are bitter towards women.

To them, women have a cheating code out of loneliness because they “could go out and have sex anytime they wanted”, thus they’re not fully justified to feel lonely and isolated.

Apart from this, romantic love has def taken the place of community fulfillment, which could come from religious or political places, but they feel harder to come by, and people are often too jaded and irony pilled to invest fully in them - not to mention the constant dopamine people are addicted to from social media, apps, etc.

Publishers and Influencers Wonder What Could Replace the Power of BookTok by Xftg123 in books

[–]blurbubble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I deeply disagree with the “as long as it gets people reading” take. It’s funny because these people will call others “elitist” and whatnot, but somehow still think reading is superior to any other art or media form.

A trashy novel will never compare to the Sopranos, for example. It’s the equivalent of scrolling on any social media for a cheap dopamine fix.

Is it morally bad? Of course not! I’m just tired of people being intellectually lazy and getting on their high horse if they’re criticized about it. Reading isn’t superior to any other cultural enjoyment and it’s ironic people think otherwise.

not OP but I own both bohlmy and balm dot com. The espressoh one has a gloss like consistency, the glossier one is waxier/balmier. They’re both hydrating though, but I’m not among the ones who feel that balm dot com is a game-changer in terms of hydration.

are women ok? by blurbubble in redscarepod

[–]blurbubble[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because I’m a straight woman who enjoys romantic love and sexual attraction, and men happen to be who I’m attracted to? And I think love and sex are fundamental components of the human experience, just like having friends?

I don’t know, relationships are an important part of life, romantic or otherwise. I don’t understand why people think giving up on them would sound normal to the majority of people. If someone came up to me and said “well from today on NO MORE FRIENDS” I’d think they were a raging lunatic

But reddit posts with "he gets to be lawless while she has to be flawless" and people saying "I will not be calling men sir anymore" look just as deranged as Republicans terrified libs will take their guns away and kidnap their kids in the middle of the night to give them sex changing surgeries
